This is a good series! But I most say Leela is the star, not Narvin!

3.02

This feelt like an epic conclusion to the story. But there are some episodes left. Is it not over? I really liked this episode. I really feel that the series got rolling at the end of the last box and now I am on edge for every story!

This is my notes from when I first listened to it a couple of weeks ago.

Leela is the bestest and I love her forever and ever and ever <3 This episode is great but (spoilers for the rest for s3) I find s3 to be all downhill from here. Appropriation is one of my all time least favourites and the character stuff in Panacea drives me mental because I think it’s completely regressive. But Mindbomb is another highlight to come and I like this episode a lot too.

I am almost done with this box. Just the last episode left and I agree with you. Mindbomb is amazing!

It was an interesting development that Pandora was hearing voices too. I was surprised that the Gallifreyan civil war arc was resolved(?) already with more stories to go in the serries. It makes me wonder what the rest of Series 3 has in store. I’m becoming more of a fan of Leela, and also Narvin, but Romana is still my favorite.

A brilliant entry in the Gallifrey saga!

This is a very clear 10/10 for me.

I was also surprised that the civil war arc was wrapped up so quickly, but I guess the rest of the series deals with the aftermath. Romana and Leela shine in the story and this episode throws in it all to provide a satisfying, epic, action-packed, tense clulmination to the war. That last act in particular is an emotional rollercoaster, and the way it ends with Romana collapsing in front of Leela truly shows the pressure she’s been under.

I agree that Leela is the big star here in how loyal and capable she remains. Narvin also has several moments, and K9 playing on two sides at once is a great addition.

Oh, and really loathe Matthias in this one! Mary Tamm is great as Pandora, this is one of her strongest performances.

So the imminent threat at hand is concluded. Time to watch some fallout. The chess game is still in motion even though the Queen is taken.

Three till mate.

How does this series just keep having such amazing episodes? I’ve literally just finished it and this is another one that goes to my favourites. Leela is amazing and it is so interesting and heartbreaking how at home she seems in war. Romana here is at her most psychologically messed up which I adore and they are just amazing together. They are so codependent, I love it. And Narvin! Some great character moments here. I just about died when he called Romana his president. Twice! I just plain love it.

Utterly brilliant. K9’s subterfuge is so cute and if it was possible to reach through headphones to throttle a character, Darkel would be first on the list.

Warfare - 7/10 (Spoilers)

This is a really interesting one, and I’ve got both a lot and and not much to say about it.

Resolving(?) the Gallifreyan Civil War so quickly is definitely an interesting choice. While I think this story and Fractures both do a pretty solid job exploring the war, I feel they could have fleshed out this setting a whole lot more and it’s a real shame they they didn’t. Fractures felt like it was setting up this setting for a deeper exploration and then Warfare just kind of concludes it early to set up for the rest of the set which feels a little strange.

I can’t help but feel like this series in particular would be a lot better binged rather than listening to one a week.

That said, there’s a lot to like here, K9’s subterfuge is just a delight, as is Romana’s faith in him. I love the tactical maneuvering from everyone in this, the scene with Darkel and Narvin was especially a highlight for me. I love the way Pandora is dealt with, using the events of previous stories. I love how Romana is willing to sacrifice herself, Leela’s response to that, the way that Leela saves her at the end and her initial disbelief at it.

I do think I’d give a higher rating if I binged these, as I didn’t I’m giving it a 7/10, but if my rating goes up, you’ll know why

Just finished this!

I am actually glad that the civil war is wrapped up so quickly, though also surprised.

I’m glad because as much as Pandora was interesting, I found it a bit contrived. I much preferred the everyday politics of S1 to this “big bad” who was just a bit of a moustache-twirling villain.

Lots of great character moments here though, really enjoyed it.

8/10!
