Listened to this last night and this rocks! Much better set up than Weapon of Choice was imo, and I thought it was gripping throughout.
Oh and I’m with everyone else on how great it was to hear Mary Tamm, and to have the retcon on the regen!

Relistened today. I love this one! It’s so fun and intriguing and full of revelations. I love how so many early Gallifrey stories are just twist after twist after twist– and they’re all character-based as well, and all of them hit home, especially in this one. The two Romanas are fantastic And Brax! He’s so good in this! Ugh I love this series…

Just listen to this again today! It’s really great, I loved all the scenes with Romana I in the vaults, and there were some especially funny moments with K9 trying to tell Romana something and then her getting frustrated when K9 didn’t tell her earlier. Narvin and Darkel are delightful and I love Narvin’s loyalty to Romana even though he hates her. Brax was also great here! (“Oh, don’t mention it. I mean that. To no one. I couldn’t bear the shame.” 
)
I’d forgotten how funny the earlier Gallifrey stuff was, this episode was making me smile the whole time, especially every time Romana reminded someone she was president. She seems to like doing that a lot lol

Relistened to this one today and yeah it’s still one of my favorites for sure! All of the dialogue is so on point, Mary Tamm<3, Narvin 
who I can now properly appreciate, all the Pandora stuff is so good, Leela is wonderful, I love Romana, Brax is amazing

I never think about Lies as a favourite but it is always a great listen!

This story is mostly just setup and exposition, which sounds like it should be interminable. It isn’t. It rules!
If you’re going to have such an exposition heavy episode in a series, this is how you do it. All the exposition comes from compelling character exchanges, with brilliantly written dialogue. Like many others, I got a real kick out of listening to Romana interacting with… other Romana. But honestly the entire cast of Gallifrey are so much fun to spend time with. I’m impressed by just how much I like Wynter, considering he’s new and like the 6th most prominent character in this story.
As for the setup, well it’s pretty damn great. We have a new villain in Pandora, some foreshadowing that Romana might become a new Imperiatrix, as well as Darkel’s scheming against Romana to be our secondary antagonist this series, then there’s Narvin and Andred both here as wildcards. The episode leaves an awful lot to look forward to.

This was fantastic. All I’m looking for in Gallifrey set stories is its history and politics, and this certainly delivered.

Oh yeah, Lies once again delivered thrills and excitement. It’s technically a bit of a breather after A Blind Eye, but knowing what’s coming made the setup here land even harder. I caught new details too that I had missed the first time around.
In terms of score, this remains an 8/10.
Lies opens Gallifrey: Series 2 with a deceptively calm, politically charged drama. Romana pushes for reform by allowing alien students into the Academy, sparking xenophobic outrage and renewed plots from Darkel and Narvin. Leela, lost after the truth about Andred, accidentally awakens the ancient entity Pandora, whose re-emergence through Romana I is both eerie and exhilarating. Gary Russell’s dialogue sparkles with wit and tension, while the Pandora mythology offers a clever explanation for Romana’s regeneration and sets the stage for Gallifrey’s impending civil war. It’s a slow burn—but one that lights the fuse for an explosive new era.

Listened to this just now! Don’t think I was the biggest fan of it and I’m surprised to see so much love for this one, I found it confusing and the Imperatrix just doesn’t interest me as a plotline but I’m not really one for ancient Gallifrey lore unless it’s Omega related. Wish I could’ve enjoyed it more but I do find where Andred is going pretty interesting with his regeneration trauma & Leela continues to be my favourite character out of everyone (although Narvin is moving up in the ranks).
Maybe I just wasn’t in the right mood as I really liked the first season but it just didn’t click.
