Iā€™m actually behind as I havenā€™t listened to Lies yet. Got to finish Absolute Power first and then Iā€™m on it.

Yeah, itā€™s a nice thing to look forward too. Plus Iā€™ve also got other stuff to listen to such a nonfiction audiobook, podcasts and the main range Audio Club that I need to catch up on.

Finished Lies tonight and just loved it. As I said elsewhere, it is just a lot of two hander scenes but each one is thoroughly engaging because the whole cast is just on point. I adore Lynda Bellingham as Darkel and it is so wonderful to hear Mary Tamm back as Romana - and being all malevolent as Pandora.

I donā€™t know what it is but I really love the ā€˜retconā€™ of Romanaā€™s life before leaving Gallfifrey and tying in her return from E-Space, the Guardians, the Doctor taking her away from Gallfrey and her taking on the presidency. Lalla Ward carries all the exposition so well. Leela and K9 are great support in this one particular in the Vault scenes - Louise Jameson is wonderful and John Leeson brings such great prissiness to K9, especially as Mark II looking down on Mark I.

I rapidly coming to the realisation I prefer the spin offs to the Main Range - the ā€˜normalā€™ Doctor Who adventures can be a bit formulaic whereas the spin offs seem to use the freedom to branch off in different directions. Gallifrey is mainly just talk but it works in a way it wouldnā€™t were it a ā€˜normalā€™ Doctor Who adventure.

Itā€™s been a while since I gave Series 1 a re-listen so coming back now to Series 2 really has reminded me why I love this series so much. Well cast, well-written and who doesnā€™t love the sound of a Gallifreyan staser!

Iā€™ve been finding this too

To be fair I also have a bit of a pacing issue with the main range a bit, one hour for a story works a lot better for me than two. I want to continue with the main range, but I just feel a bit unmotivated to come back to it at the moment (especially with my next story being Winter for the Adept, so far Iā€™ve been finding Five a little meh on audio, while Iā€™m loving Six and Seven).

Five does get good stuff with Peri and Erimem. Winter for the Adept isnā€™t great but worth it for hearing India Fisher before she was Charley.

Thatā€™s fair, to be fair Iā€™ve also not seen as much of Fiveā€™s era as the rest. I used to love him as a kid but yeah, not seen much in ages.

And look at the other oneā€™s Iā€™ve got coming up!

Donā€™t judge a book by itā€™s cover and all, but they all just look more interesting than it

3 absolute corkers and 3 middle to low. Wonā€™t say which is which though.

Just listened to this!

It was great! I gave it 7/10 simply because it was a lot of talking and not much plot, I may give it more if I re listen, but I really enjoyed the performances and itā€™s building things up nicely.

I love how they used Romana I, and retconned her regeneration, that was brilliant!

100%. Iā€™d rather listen to two one-hour long stories than one two-hour long story. I just find the pacing of the longer ones deliberately drawn out, and these hour-long ones are perfectly paced.

Looking forward to the next one!

The talking is the plotā€¦

LIES, or TWO-HANDERS FOR THE WIN!

Such a great start to Series 2! A story filled with set-up through two-hander scenes, some of the best dialogue writing Iā€™ve heard in a long time and a couple of great twists to boot. Mary Tamm makes her BF debut and is lovely to listen to. The plot is streamlined but compelling, and Romana and Leela continue to shine, while Pandora makes for a compelling new villain.

I really enjoy Cardinal Wynter as a newly graduated and inexperienced cardinal. This is the strongest Gallifrey story, until Spirit at least.

Fixed it for ya

I was so confused by these Time Lord job titles when I first started. I canā€™t even tell a Coordinator from Cardinal 4 stories in. How I miss those times (no I donā€™t)

Iā€™m neck deep in Gallifrey by now and I can still get Cardinal and Castellan mixed up :sob:

Thatā€™s easy. Castellan means trust level 3 and youā€™ve been active on the forum for a prolonged period of time, while Cardinal is not a trust level because the next level is High Council. /j

Petition to make Cardinal a trust level so I can remember which is whichā€¦?

Yes, everyone loves Wynter. Heā€™s got a big story coming for him <3

I donā€™t think we remembered Cardinal as an option when we were naming the four trust levels.

My biggest question though is should be be pronounced Shobogan to rhyme with Toboggan or Shoboooooogan?
