Look at my minions saying all the right things, I’m so proud :smiling_face_with_tear:

I agree one hundred percent, it just keeps getting better in my opinion, while I did really enjoy season one, season two has blown me away and the first episode of season three is my favourite so far!

The first episode that made me appreciate Gallifrey was the Series 1 finale. Series 2 then delivered one hit after the other, so after Spirit, I was completelty sold. And I agree that the Series 3 opener is probably the best one so far.

Re your comment about the Time Lords being depicted as petty children rather than demi-gods.

In defence of that, they’re only really shown as gods in The War Games. By The Three Doctors they’re already much more prosaic and then in The Deadly Assassin they’re becoming petty politicians and they have TV journalists. The Invasion of Time has air traffic control. Gallifrry builds on the society of Assassin, Invasion and beyond.

It’s an interesting thing to think about though, they’re shown as more Demi-God-like in The War Games, though that’s by virtue of us seeing so little and so few of them.

But the lore about the old times of gallifrey, the era of Rassilon, Omega, and The Other, and what we see and hear of some of the higher time lords from The Time War…

There’s an implication that they were effectively gods of time, and that they could be again, perhaps not easily, but without too much difficulty… If they ever stopped their petty squabbling and put their differences aside for the greater good. An implication that I think works really nicely, The Doctor is the only Time Lord who’s ever run away to help people, and in many places across the universe he’s revered for it, especially in Smith’s era. Hell, we see a church have to remind it’s followers that

He is not the devil. He is not a god. He is not a goblin, or a phantom or a trickster. The Doctor is a living, breathing man

I think there’s also something to be said then about why Gallifrey keeps trying to put them in charge. The Doctor holds this almost mythic status in Time Lord society. Across media we see the ideas that that this society was built on the back of their work (even if they don’t know it), or that they’re a frequent part of Time Lord Fairy Tales. Gallifrey wants them in charge because they think that with them in charge they could return to those old days of the time lords as deities, but The Doctor knows that rather than dragging them up, with how Gallifreyan society functions, he’d only be dragged down.

Hmmm…
I enjoyed this one slightly more than the previous one. As always with this Range, our Leads give a great Performance and I can only sing praise for Lalla & Louise. I must admit I expected something more straightforward and what I get was very messy. Messy isn’t bad, but makes it harder to connect with this one. I did like how we explore the Emotions Leela is still feeling of Andred’s absence and how this plays into it, that was very nice! And really it’s the Character Moments that shine here quite a lot!
Excited to get to the finale of this first Series soon!

More than anything that’s what makes Gallifrey awesome - sometimes the plot is silly nonsense, but the characters are brilliant

I quite enjoyed this story. I would have liked more of an actual inquiry, and less exposition at the end, but I enjoyed the bulk of the story.
(Romana can do no wrong)

Romana can do wrong, but it’s okay when she does, and we love her for it

I love when Romana does wrong and bad things so much, she’s such an imperfect character and I adore her for it

hehe and you’re only on series 4…

This one was (marginally) my favourite yet, mostly due to the character work and the way it comes together. Did find first half a bit boring, and the title kind of a fib for what the story actually is (in that it’s not really the focus or the setting as much as you’d expect).

Still not vibing loads with season 1 but from what yous have all said I will keep going; plus I’m still enjoying it more than I’ve not so no reason to drop the spin off even if I’m not loving it yet.

This episode is definitely is one that you get more out of with relistens, I think. Series 1 in general hits harder on relisten by knowing the ending because you see all the hidden little bits

Just finished a relisten to this one! What struck me most about it this time, as a Braxiatel fan, was not only meeting a younger Braxiatel but also the many fleeting references to other Brax stories—his introduction in Theatre of War, his working as an ambassador in The Empire of Glass, and of course foreshadowing to Benny and the Collection. As Brax’s creator it makes sense Justin Richards would give so much focus to him!

I quite enjoyed this but definitely think it will be stronger on a relisten. Some lovely character interactions throughout though and I found Romana quite engaging in this story.
