Another relatively dull entry in the saga… I listened to this yesterday and already forgot all the main beats of the plot except the ending, which although one could see it coming from a mile off, I’ll give them that it is an interesting ā€˜twist’.

Alby continues to piss me off by existing, and I actively was annoyed by Suz in this one too. ā€˜ā€˜Ouuugg I’ll kill myself if you don’t stop being meanies :(’’ ok but you literally won’t and we all know it so stop making useless threats. That really irritated me

I do have a positive though! I did love the new character of Morli, I thought she was great fun. I also thought the actress wasn’t good, but I can put that aside because finally this series has a character I actually enjoy and brings a tiny bit of well needed levity. I get why this series is dark and serious and I do like the tone, but it’s very sameily grim. A spot of levity is appreciated now and again.

Yeah, this was a return to the muddled, boring, and aimless storytelling that plagued last season. I don’t really know what happens in it, and I don’t really care.

A dull and structureless entry, Dalek War: Chapter Two fails to build upon the promise of its predecessor. With unengaging characters, aimless plotting, and uninspired sound design, it feels like little more than Daleks shouting at each other for an hour. A missed opportunity that does little to justify its runtime.

I wish they would just tell this story in order. I spent a lot of this episode thinking I’d accidentally skipped a track about Albie on the hospital ship only for the flashback to kick in later on.

I don’t think I disliked this instalment as much as others but can’t disagree that the series seems to be treading water - a bit like Series 1 did during parts 2 and 3. I agree with @sircarolyn about Suz’s ā€˜I’ll kill myself’ being completely pointless. Morli is odd too - I don’t actually remember but I feel like she’s going to be revealed as some sort of Dalek agent because she’s so overplayed it just seems like misdirection (but really bad misdirection).

I couldn’t work out if Morli was meant to be a child character played by an adult. She comes across as a bit clueless.

I would love to read detailed reviews or something about this series by someone who absolutely loves the pants off it. This series has always existed peripherally to me as one that is ā€˜pretty damn good’ but I’m sad that I’m really not feeling it and I’d love to see what a lover of it thought, even if I were to disagree

As a self-declared ā€˜not a massive fan of the Daleks’, I remembered enjoying this first time round a lot more than I am this time. What usually annoys me about Dalek stories is annoying me and I don’t remember it doing that before. It’s a bit frustrating. I think one problem is how obvious it is that Briggs and Brooker are playing so many roles and the other is, as people are pointing out and I’m starting to realise, how annoying Suz and Alby are. If it wasn’t for Gareth Thomas giving it some class via Kalendorf, I think I’d think even less of it.

That said, I’m still intrigued to relisten to 3 and 4 (and I’m not 100% convinced I’ve even listened to 4 before) but maybe not for a while.

(On which note, we need to have a think about where we want Audio Club Extra to visit next - expect a poll tomorrow sometime).

Another 4/5 episode from me. While being told in flashback takes a bit to get used to, I really enjoyed the action and where the story is going.

I’m still enjoying all the characters.

This was probably the weakest story so far for me. It just felt so boring. I don’t know why we’re getting yet another new character, and one that’s so two dimensional at that. Still don’t care for Suz and Albie’s relationship, it just feels unrealistic at this point. I think if they had introduced them as an existing couple in the premiere episode it would’ve made all the difference, instead of them barely knowing each other yet being ā€œIn loveā€.

Its like the writer went to Newcastle once and was like ā€œSure, what the hellā€ and threw in a Georgie-ism in every sentence :sob:

It is probably the weakest episode of this spin-off, but it’s not bad imo, just mediocre. I’ll give it a 6/10

I did not expect the random S-words here honestly. I’m not against it, just surprised

Dalek War Chapter Two - 4/10

I’ll admit, taking a month long break probably didn’t help my connecting to this story, but bearing in mind it was released a month after the prior installment, that shouldn’t affect as much as it did.

While there’s certianly some interesting stuff in here, especially with Karlendorf, and Susan’s current relationship with the daleks, this story feels like another load of things just happening. Meandering to get to the point. In a great story that can be used to build tension and suspense, here, for me, it unfortunately feels aimless.

I remember ending my last few reviews saying I wasn’t really all that big on the stories themselves, but with the cliffhangers, I was excited to see what turns the story would take next, where we’d end up, and while the cliffhanger at the end of this does intrigue me, well. Fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice, shame on you, fool me thrice… and you get Dalek War Chapter Two.

In short, this is continuing to be a story that I just wish I liked a lot more than I actually do, and while I’m going to keep listening to see if it improves, I’m done getting my hopes up that it will.
