This story is very very silly but it is also very very fun and good. It’s a brilliant and bonkers introduction to Benny - I love that her attitude the whole time is just ‘this might as well be happening’ and she’s wonderful and I love her
I adore that this absolute delight is the first ever Big Finish story. Not a hard sci-fi piece, not a serious drama—an absolutely ridiculous, hilarious pantomime. Fantastic!
Love this one, its just so funny. Lisa Bowerman instantly captures Benny just so well, love that Nicholas Courtney is playing Wolsey and the Grel are a real fun alien species that I wish had more appearances
Just an all around incredible story. Maybe the plot sometimes gets a bit repetetive but I very much enjoy all the craziness of it. Nicholas Courtney and Lisa Bowerman are (unsurprisingly) masters of their craft. 10/10
The first (and probably only) Story that I listened in advance just for this Audio Club already!
Oh No It Isn’t is a perfect Example from an Audio that needs a bit more Time to click (at least with me), an odd yet an incredible Way to bring this at the Time beloved literature Figure into a new Medium. And making Bowerman the definitive Article for said Character. Yes, It Is a great Story!
Some further Thoughts can be read in this short Review down below
It started off great, but around the forty-five minute mark it started overstaying its welcome. This had no business being two hours long. Nothing was really going on and the plot was hardly moving. Bernice seems like a cool character, so there’s that. I also wasn’t expecting to hear all the innuendos, but I didn’t mind it as much as I did in The Kingmaker.
It’s fine. It’s definitely one of those audios you could leave on in the background.
Remember though that this is technically an audio adaptation of the first solo Benny novel, the start of the “second season” of Virgin New Adventures after they lost the rights to feature the Doctor.
Listened to this a few weeks ago when I began my Benny journey, and I loved it. Yeah its ridiculous and a little cringy at some points, but most of the time it was fun instead and I found it really really enjoyable. Despite being so long it never felt too long and I never got bored. Benny is such an amazing character and she immediately makes a big impression in this first audio.
This one was fun. Benny seems like a really interesting character from the little I’ve read and heard of hers. This does seem like their is more method in the madness if you’re familiar with panto. But I don’t mind it when stories go off the rails, and I very much enjoyed myself throughout
Just finished this and it was totally not what I was expecting, in the best way possible. As someone who’s only recently delved into the Benny world, with the Eternity Club and then the rest of the New Adventures range, I loved this. I’d actually say tone wise it was very similar to Eternity Club, so perhaps that series is just going back to its roots now its Benny solo again. This was camp, fun, and didn’t drag despite the huge runtime.
I love Oh No It Isn’t but haven’t listened to it for years. As a pantomime fan, it ticks a lot of my boxes but it is an odd start for Benny’s adventures (and it was as a book too). Good Fact: the Grel are a great invention. And Nicholas Courney as Wolsey is inspired.
Complaints about the length (oo-er), though, surprise me because what’s two hours when we have stories dragged across multiple box sets. 2 hours doesn’t really seem that much, especially bearing in mind this is a book adaptation.
