I mainly like this one as an acting exercise for McGann. All the Doctors have at least one story where their actor gets to show their own understanding of their incarnation’s many facets (Androzani for Fifth, Heaven Sent for Twelfth, Human Nature for Tenth [and arguably Seventh, albeit without the actor’s involvement]), and this is a more literal example of that than most. The Divergent Universe arc as a whole is quite all over the place (and held back by how every story is a variation on the same theme of large-scale scientific experiments), but this is definitely one of the better ones.
Emblematic of what the rest of the divergent arc should’ve been like.
Wildly creative, endlessly innovative and positively unique, Lloyd Rose delivers to us what is absolutely the most fun entry into this saga.
All performers are on top, our writer truly understands the characters and whilst the plot begins to lose steam towards the end, it does not take this story away from greatness.

Caerdroia stands out as one of the more unique and memorable entries in the Divergent Universe arc. It’s not perfect, but it finds strength from some amazing performances and great character moments in an imaginative environment.
8/10
Caerdroia is a clever, layered adventure that takes full advantage of the Doctor Who format’s ability to be surreal, comedic, and unsettling all at once. Paul McGann delivers a phenomenal performance across three versions of the Doctor, and the shifting dynamics between the characters keep the story fresh throughout.
A mind-bending maze, a Minotaur on the hunt, and three Doctors for the price of one—this is Big Finish at its most experimental and entertaining.

I know this is a well loved one. I know. And maybe I just need to relisten because I don’t remember it well anymore and maybe I was in the wrong mood last time. But like… I didn’t get the hype. I didn’t really vibe with it. It’s not that I didn’t like it, but more I just thought it was fine and I’m not sure why this is so beloved. Maybe it’s just one of those episodes thst doesn’t do it for me. Perhaps a relisten will bring clarity
Definitely! You must have missed the hidden scene where Eight has a tearful reunion with Romana and Leela while Narvin keeps blowing himself up in the background!
I’m in the same boat. I also remember being underwhelmed by the three different 8th Doctors. I didn’t think the differentiation between them was enough. But, like you, it probably needs a relisten.
So I listened to this last year and have been waiting for this audio club for a bit! As someone who’s cold on DU both due to its tone (it’s miserable without purpose most of the time) and its inability to make use of its premise, Caerdroia lands for me and lands hard!
This one is an absolute blast to listen to, and non stop fun with a much lighter tone. From what I remember it actually does more with the “no time” premise too. And McGann is brilliant! For once he’s actually interested in a script and is having a blast, and I love how he plays all 3 versions of 8. I never realised how much I missed happy movie!8 in all his whimsy and eagerness till this.
Honestly my favourite of the DU, at worst tied fave with Scherzo. Just a delight to listen to and one I’ll likely relisten to at some point
Caerdroia I found delightfully fun. I like it when stories get weird and by god does Caedroia get weird! I also have fond memories of the first time I listened to it: Christmas morning, barely 7am and still dark, wandering through the woods with just a torch and three Eighth Doctors for company. Definitely added to the experience
Brilliant one! Witty, charming and just a good Time for me! Big fan of this one! (Cute that they use Winnie Pooh Names for the 8s if I recall correctly!)
This one is just an absolute classic in my eyes. I love it when Doccy Who gets weird and this scratched that itch immensely. The personality splinters are brilliant and the way Tigger and Eeyore get paired with the companion that is their polar opposite is so incredibly fun. Speaking of companions, this is the best writing that this TARDIS Team has gotten so far! The quick witted, snappy back and forth between Charley and C’rizz in that opening sequence sets this off on such a high note that you can’t help but just ride that high through the rest of the story. I never realized that this was a 4 hander technically 5 but shhhhh hander too. Funny how the two best stories in the Divergent Universe only use the main cast.
I didn’t enjoy this one as much, if memory serves. Looking back on my memory of it a lot of the story felt very nothing-y and padded instead of contributing to the story.
