You all thought I was mad! Mad! And maybe I am, but this series is great

I’m just trying to decide whether to get Time War 2 as I have 1 but haven’t listened to it because the Time War more or less bores me as a concept and BF seem to spend an inordinate amount of time producing audios involving it!

Time War 2 is the best of the Gallifrey TW stuff. I like 3 and the less said about 4 the better tbh. It’s a shaky series overall and I personally think it’s worth listening to (obviously) but if you wanted to pick just one of the boxsets to listen to, I would recommend 2 because it’s more or less stand alone and it’s pretty good

Agreed!
Gallifrey Day!!!

Yeah, the Time War as a concept should rly be left alone or only explored in brief, horrifying snippets, otherwise you end up with Boring Generic Space War a la Day of the Doctor

I actually enjoy the concept of the Time War but I’d like a little less Daleks Shouting and more about the weird stuff that happened to time, and the impact of it on other planets and cultures too.

I really like the most recent sets like Cass and Reflections because they are experimental.

Well, I now own everything up to enemy lines and I have not that subtly told my dad I would like time war for my birthday, so I’m deep in this now

You’ll absolutely love the EDAs then. While I’m only very early on, from what I’ve read on the wiki and heard from others, they really go absolutely buckwild playing with the concept of time and how it can be distorted and weaponised.

Absolutely. The War in Heaven especially is very different from the Time War in all the best ways. It’s not against the daleks, but a mysterious eldritch Enemy. The whole war itself is a looming future event, with effects rippling back through time to the present, rather than a haunting past event with linear consequences into the present. The fact that it’s native to the books means it can just generally go a lot more abstract and weird and cool. I’ve said it before, but I genuinely believe that the Compassion arc is one of the best things the franchise has ever done

And the way they handle the fallout/aftermath of (massive spoiler) the destruction of Gallifrey, with multiple different forces competing to try to fill the power vacuum left by the Time Lords, and spacetime being especially malleable and vulnerable in the meantime is really cool, and arguably even more interesting than the way they handle similar story beats in the show

I’m tempted by Dalek Universe - is it worth it for £69 (including Dalek Protocol)?

Or are any of the others bundles worth it? (Bearing in mind my professed dislike for Time War stuff).

FYI Daughter of the Gods is excellent for anyone who doesn’t have that one.

I remember liking Dalek Empire well enough. It’s not Time War stuff - more like the old Terry Nation spin-off comics of “what the Daleks get up to when the Doctor isn’t around.”
