Assassin's Creed

This is a short experiment to have a thread for a franchise that isn’t Doctor Who. In this, I’d love to discuss the Assassin’s Creed franchise with you guys. Do any of you play them? What’s your favorite game? Favorite protagonist? Least favorite? All that sort of stuff.

I’ve played all of the main series except for Mirage. Origins and Odyssey are the only ones where I’ve completed the main story. I think my favorite protagonists are Ezio, Edward Kenway and Bayek.

I hardly finish any video games so I didn’t buy any of the Assassin’s Creed games, even though I am interested. I got the novels instead. Slowly reading Odyssey now and really enjoying ot.

@PlanetBarcelona, if you have access to YouTube, the channel Gamer’s Little Playground has all the cutscenes edited into full-length movies that you can watch.

I’ve played at least some of all the games, completed 1, 2, Brotherhood, Revelations, Origins and Odyssey.
It’s a very nostalgic franchise for me even if it can often be lacking at reaching It’s full potential. The Ezio trilogy and Origins have the best protagonists, story and overall world, though 1 had some great ambition for It’s stealth and assassination stuff from gathering intel that I wish the franchise would return to. Need to finish Valhalla sometime and really want to get Mirage.

I do own a number of them:
Checking, if I go on Steam, I have 1 and Origins.

If I go on Ubisoft Connect, I have: I, II, Brotherhood, III, Liberation, Unity, Chronicles, Origins.

Thing is, I never go on Ubisoft Connect (and had to figure out what my password was to take a look), and I’m pretty sure those were all me getting one humble bundle at some point. I suspect that the steam ones might have been from being subscribed to the monthly humble bundle thing, too…

I’ve played a little bit of several, but not too much. Ubisoft has also gradually become one of these companies I don’t really buy games from any more, so not really likely to get more.

I think I’ve heard that before and pretty sure it’s sitting in my whatch later list collecting dust lol

I should dig that up. Like, asap

I’ve got all the main series on Steam except Valhalla (which I have on Ubisoft Connect) and Mirage which I don’t have at all.

I really think Edward Kenway is my favorite. His story is just so good and the ending so sad and rewarding.

@AlfieSigma, here’s the cutscenes for Black Flag. It’s just under five hours.

I saw the title and thought this was a Doctor Who story I hadn’t heard about

Anyway, I’ve never played the games (which is a pity, because I like these types of games after growing up with the Sly Cooper games, etc.). I have, however, watched the film adaptation with Michael Fassbender. It’s not a very good movie.

Weird that this popped up right now since I started playing Assassin’s Creed: Unity on a whim last night.

But I do really like the Assassin’s Creed games, the so-called “Ubisoft formula” has for some reason formed a comfort for me and I just like turning my brain off to play Farcry or Watch Dogs or something similar.

I own all of them up until Mirage and am planning on playing through them all eventually, but not for a while.

I played every entry up to Black Flag. I never finished the last 2. Got tired of the worlds that just got bigger but less interesting.

I played the original when it came out. I gave up about halfway through as I found it repetitive. I understand that there are good sequels, Black Flag etc, but I haven’t owned a console since the PS3, so it ain’t going to happen.

I have been summoned. Boy do I have things to say.

Firstly I think that there might be links between liking ‘Assassin’s Creed’ and ‘Doctor Who’, as there is timetravel and sometimes freaky sci-fi stuff in both franchises.

I have played all of them.
My favourite varies. It tends to switch between: 2, Brotherhood, 4, Unity, Origins and Mirage.
I like almost every protagonist, except for Alexios/Kassandra and Eivor, because being able to “form them” by making decisions yourself makes them kind of bland. Odyssey atleast had the novelization that gave the ‘Canon’ Kassandra, and she was much better, because she had focus. But Eivor didn’t have that. Also Jacob from Syndicate is irritating at times.

I am worried that they will listen to the anti-woke mob now with ‘Shadows’, it has been delayed and I can’t think for another reason to do that than to trim down the parts with “the black samurai in them”.

If you let the Animus choose for Eivor, you get the female Eivor as canon. And the reason in Valhalla for having the male and female Eivor is actually pretty clever considering that Eivor is the reincarnation of the Isu Odin. So depending on the memories, you can be playing as female Eivor and then have a memory with male Odin.

And that black samurai is an actual real historical figure.

They are on PC if you’re a PC gamer. Everything up through Valhalla is on Steam, too.

I’ve played decent chunks of some of the games and little bits of others. That’s the great thing about the cutscenes being on YouTube because then I can still experience the usually excellent stories without getting stuck in one point of gameplay.

Be aware that Mirage features a character from Valhalla and that major revelations about the character come towards the end of Valhalla. Thus the ending of Mirage might feel a bit confused and unexplained if you don’t already know what Valhalla revealed.

Already found that spoiler

I would still like to finish Valhalla first but it is just so long and I’ve been sidetracked a while.
