April Fools jokes

Now that it’s April 2nd, we can finally trust things we see on the internet again :joy:

I wasn’t going to do an April Fools’ joke on the forum because I sometimes find them mean-spirited, like if you announce something everyone is really looking forward to and then watch them be sad when they realise it was just a joke

But @JayPea had the idea for K9 Guide and I had a lot of fun going along with it!

We tagged all the topics that were for the April Fools here, for future historians: k9-guide

Here is a thread to talk about other April Fools jokes. Were there any good ones this year? Did you fall for anything? What are you favourite historical ones?

(I will also merge in some of the ones we discussed in the Free-for-all chat).

I once saw an April Fools in a newspaper, it was a huge spread about aliens that had landed. It had loads of fake photos and lots of the articles and even adverts throughout the paper were in on the joke. I loved it! I remember that I cut out all the articles and had them on my pinboard in my bedroom when I was a kid (yes like one of those crazy people in the movies who cuts out articles about murders and stuff). Had it for years. But I can’t remember what paper it was now

That is a great one. This is the best one that Sweden has experienced.

The older generation still talks about how they actually tried to put nylon stockings on their TVs.

Good morning, K9ers! There’s this tradition in the astrophysics community of releasing joke papers on April’s Fool: a stupid idea written in paper format, following the standards of scientific publication. Here are some of the best of this year so far:

This one is actually genius:

Oh I’ve just remembered another April Fools I took part in.

This was more of the “disappointing someone with fake news” variety and I feel bad :slightly_frowning_face:

When I was in Sixth Form College, I had my own little website and even a forum that lots of the people in my classes were in (yes I’ve always wanted a forum…) and I ran a competition on there to win a prize, and I took this picture saying what you could win was what I held in my hand!

(Picture taken round my friend’s house, I wouldn’t own my own GameCube until I went to uni)

But whilst the GameCube in the background is the real deal, what I had in my hand was a cardboard replica that we got in Nintendo Magazine or something :sob:

It was from that moment on I swore not to do a mean-spirited April Fools joke again

Who is the baby in that photo?

Probably Shauny’s grandson.

Love a good harmless April Fools joke! The one I did this year (sorry for the plug) was a silly Pokémon fake “challenge” run

With a GameCube? Nah, that’s Shauny’s son

Wait, how have I not realised you have a YT channel with interesting content? That’s an instant subscription from me! And I get to listen to your lovely voice!

Ahh, I just thought that maybe his grandson has good taste, seeing as @shauny obviosuly does (on everything except smart phones…).

Aw thank you! I haven’t really plugged it here because I wasn’t sure if I should (or where would be the right place to anyway lol)

I remember switching “The Shameless Self Promotion Bureau” forum to be “The Shameful Self Promotion Bureau” one year.

And one year, I switched my username to GabbAI for the day, with this avatar.

I once swapped all my class’s pencil cases around while they were out at break one April Fool’s morning. I’m the funniest teacher.

War of the Worlds is eternal, it will always return in one form or another across the years, never dying truly .

Love me a good April Fools Joke. I will say they can be quite hit-and-miss, I loathe the ones regarding anything proper News related, because often it’s hard to tell when one is a Joke and one isn’t (well in most Cases).

Not to do a plug here, but every now, and then I try my own Hand in one of these. Such as doing a whole Review bit where the Joke is just going on and on into unnecessary tangent and barely talking about the Core Topic.

I think at the End of the Day it really comes down to just making something that could be funny on basically any Day rather than doing a “Omg Peter Capaldi is doing Big Finish now” Joke to keep it Who-related. Loathe those mean-spirited ones, they are terrible!

What you make Videos?! Now I have to see it for myself :eye:

I haven’t had a lot of great experiences with April Fool’s jokes. There was a memorable multi-day school trip where April 1st was smack dab in the middle and I had completely forgotten the date. While walking around with my group a few guys approached us and offered us oreos. Despite the age old adage “never take candy from strangers” I took one. It tasted fine, but another kid in my group told me they were obviously full of toothpaste, which was true in hindsight. This prank is one I look upon fondly. No harm done.

Later that day, while all the kids were packed into the bus, the teachers said they were going to buy us pizza, and walked through asking every kid what topping they wanted, writing it down. After they had gone through the entire bus they suddenly announced that it was an April Fool’s joke. I was so mad, I really wanted pizza. Some of the kids tried to tell me that it was obviously a joke because they would never go through all that effort but clearly they had. Anyway, I’m still a little mad about that even though it’s been years. I haven’t been big into April Fool’s ever since.

Toothpaste Oreo’s sound awful!

And “Ha! There’s no pizza!” is the most dumb idea for April Fools I’ve ever heard.
