An Eighth Doctor Adventures adventure

Then at least take the time to watch The Night of the Doctor · Doctor Who Specials (Minisode) · TARDIS Guide. It’s only seven or eight minutes and will give you a voice to attach to the character. If you can track down a copy of the TV Movie, that would be even better. And then you’ll have watched everything with the Eighth Doctor in it.

Whoa! That’s it!!!?

Crazy! I don’t know a lot of the DW history like that, but it’s really interesting…

We didn’t have too much exposure to DW here in the US when I grew up in the 80’s.

I think it’s so cool that there are SO MANY “eighth” books though! :sunglasses:

Beyond the books there is also the audios (which you can listen for free to the first eleven Eighth Doctor ones at Spotify) and comics, but yeah, that all of Eight in TV.

Yeah, that’s it. The TV Movie was broadcast on Fox in the USA two weeks before it was broadcast in the UK. It was designed as a sort of backdoor pilot to bring the show back and was a joint production with Fox. Unfortunately, it didn’t do well enough in the USA to warrant an actual series. It did do fairly well in the UK, but that didn’t matter to Fox. Because Doctor Who is primarily a UK show and the Wilderness Years spawned so much media, there was a huge book series, a nice run of DWM comics (which are collected in four volumes and really good), and later, a huge amount of audio stories from Big Finish. Night of the Doctor was a surprise for the 50th and gave us McGann’s regeneration into the War Doctor (since we hadn’t gotten a regeneration scene for the Eighth Doctor yet).

Yes! Sort of! Like a lot of Who, I tip in or out from ranges, as much as I do love to start from the very beginning, it is really tempting to me to jump around at times, I don’t know why. But yeah I read a few of the EDAs and slowly try to expand that, just recently finished Trading Future and working on getting done with my reading of Alien Bodies (it’s great so far).

But from what I read, I liked most of it. Highlights would include The Crooked World and The Year of Intelligent Tigers. I really enjoy how 8 is characterized in them, very different to the more modern approach for 8 that we got in Stuff such as with Liv/Helen.
And of course as anybody else I really love Fitz, basically the definitive Companion of that Range (from what I gather), I still need to articulate my thoughts on Sam, since I believe I only read from her in two Books and well AB. That said I am looking forward to getting to know her much better, so far while she doesn’t spark much in me, I fail to see why is she so disliked by many honestly.

Heh perhaps I will get around to properly articulate my thoughts on the Books that I have read. But I must admit looking at the ones I have done, only * The Janus Conjunction* really didn’t appeal to me. It was pretty whatever, honestly.

I must say I am really impressed and glad to have those two Lists made by @nyssaoftraken and @nyssaoftraken, probably very helpful for future readings!

Thanks, that is very interesting! Those comic volumes sound good, I wonder where to get those!

It’s because she’s incredibly flimsily characterised - I’m saying this with love because I am a Sam Jones enjoyer, but the quality of the characterisation varies wildly from book to book. She’s also a relatively generic teenager, so despite having potential, some writers make her really boring and get captured repeatedly

That makes sense, as I said I only really read two books with her and one of which, being the Janus one, doesn’t help me much to form an opinion on her. Shame that her Characterization seems to be not as polished as the following companions in that Range, oh well :I
Thanks for explaining!

Amazon has them, though probably at varying prices. Check your local library. Mine wasn’t able to get Volume 1, got Volume 2 through Inter-library Loan, and purchased a copy of Volumes 3 & 4 for the collection. Otherwise, you might find them on eBay or direct from the publisher, maybe.

If you get decent sleep today and still mean this in a good way when you wake up, it’s a win

I’ve got to say, makes me feel less alone hearing about somebody finishing a Book at such a late time as well, lol. Anyway, I am glad to hear you enjoyed Alien Bodies, still reading it myself, hoping to finish it sometime this week!

Nothing like enjoying a book so much you can’t put it down even though the next day is a working day. Can’t wait to hear what your thoughts on Alien Bodies are!

I wish I could do this but I have an awful habit of falling asleep when I read late at night. Must be my age!

That’s your body being a good friend protecting you. Mine just doesn’t care about me, it lets me suffer with the sleepies for the entire next day, says “I told you so” a lot :pensive:

Organized (strong word, maybe) my thoughts on Alien Bodies here: Review of Alien Bodies by mndy · TARDIS Guide
Would love to talk some more about it!

I’m the same. My best time for reading is at night because I have fewer distractions, it’s quiet and peaceful.

But my worst time for reading is late at night because I have fewer distractions, it’s quiet and peaceful and so I fall asleep

I’ve heard that if you read the “Interludes” in reverse order, it actually tells the chronological tale of how the Relic got from Dronid to the Auction.
