I’m rambling a bit more about Sam’s character in the review, but basically I agree with @Nardole and @sircarolyn. Blorman+Leonard Sam is the best version of Sam because, shocker, those are the books where her morals and her actions actually matter to the story and push it forward. She has the kind of personality that just doesn’t shine if she’s not directly in the spotlight. She takes things seriously, maybe too seriously. Fitz, in contrast, doesn’t take anything seriously and constantly ■■■■■ up. He’s naturally funny and works well even if he’s not the focus.
So it was a slow day at work today and I read Revolution Man. The whole thing
It was… interesting, I think is the word. Not boring for sure! But not one I’d say I enjoyed. I’m not sure that I get on woth Leonard books very well, though this was a strong one. And I wrote a review
Hell, I wish my class would let me just sit and read a Doctor Who book! Sadly, my classroom is really close to the headteacher’s office too so not sure I’d get away with it… I suppose I could just have a reaaaallly long storytime…
Started Dominion today, about 100 pages in so far. It’s very well written but I think I’m just… not liking it. Can’t pinpoint why, but it’s just not doing anything for me. And the Alien scene really was too gory for me that was horrid
Don’t know about you, but I thought the Doctor was acting weirdly on that one, specially in the beginning. I think it’s a conscious choice, given the end of Revolution Man + no TARDIS, kidnapped Sam, but it threw me off.
Yeah I think that might be part of the problem, I can’t pinpoint exactly why I think the characterisation is strange but it is. I also miss Sam, though I guess her not being there is as good as having her there for all most writers do with her Also sigh, did we really have to introduce the female characters every time by mentioning how big their breasts are
I just now finished “The Longest Day” and I really liked it! (surprise!)
It was kind of wild, but fun for sure, especially the guy who kept saying “I have metal legs!”, he cracked me UP!!! And the Kusks were cool as a massive monster/foe I thought!
Fun overall, tonight I’m starting “Legacy of the Daleks”.
I’m looking to get into the EDAs, which books are the best and/or can be read fairly standalone?
Some of the ones I’ve heard are good are Vampire Science, Alien Bodies, Seeing I, The Scarlet Empress, The Year of Intelligent Tigers, The Crooked World, Mad Dogs and Englishmen, and Camera Obscura.
I also wanna get into Faction Paradox, which I heard appear in Alien Bodies, Interference I&II, Unnatural History and the Ancestor Cell.
