An Eighth Doctor Adventures adventure

Rumors say that’s actually what inspired Miles the most. I think there is a lil bit of an inspiration, yes, specially for Faction Paradox, but also it’s a four-page comic (twelve in the total). So let’s not overplay its merits, you know.

The fun thing about the Krotons is that they appeared in a 60s Second Doctor serial and were notorious in Who fandom at the time for being… well, a bit rubbish! (Opinion has softened since.)

So Miles is making a big joke by building up this terrifying, unstoppable alien race approaching the auction. Readers are probably expecting to encounter the Daleks (the biggest baddies in Classic Who). So the reveal of the Krotons is a big subversion of expectations! As is them actually being quite dangerous in the book!

The Shift, Faction Paradox and all the other aliens and people are entirely Miles originals, though.

Love Alien Bodies! Wish I could read it again for the first time. Glad you enjoyed!

See that is so cool! I would have NEVER known that! Thanks for explaining all that to me… It really adds some interesting nuances to the concepts in the book!

So I finished The Longest Day and my God, I really did not like this book, the Cover intrigued me, but I am sad to report, this just might be my least favorite EDA so far (and that means something when I am somebody who is much kinder on books such as the Eight Doctors!!)

Not sure if I mentioned it here already, but I also read the first Dalek Peel Novel for that range and oof that wasn’t great either.

So I think I will try to pick up Seeing I next, seems like a well-liked Book and I really want/need another EDA to get me hooked again! :frowning:

Yeah, ‘Longest Day’ is not my favorite, but it is pretty important. I hope you like ‘Seeing I’, I have only good things to say about it!

Finished ‘The Taint’! It’s really apparent that this was written by the same guy that wrote ‘Longest Day’; I have similar issues with both books. But I do think this one is better, as Fitz Kreiner is an immediate highlight. New companion, babeyyyy let’s goooooo!

Fitz is a Darling of a Character! Shame to hear that this Story suffers from the same issues as that Book. :frowning: Looking forward to reading your Review when I eventually get around to this Story!!

Thank you!! Yeah, this is a main Reason for me to get around to this one as the next one, that and the Fact who has written it :star_struck:

Also, to be clear, Michael Collier is a pseudonym for Stephen Cole

I don’t think I knew that!

Huh! Any particular reason why he did his first 2 EDAs with a pseudonym?

All I can find for certain is him saying that BBC bosses made him. I imagine it’s something to do with the fact that he was basically the showrunner during this period (note that the 2 books he did started an arc, and introduced a companion), and avoiding looking like he was comissioning books from himself or something

I highly doubt any reader would think that but eh

It would be more to do with the publishing industry rather than the readers, I would think. A bit like how on the classic series, script editors couldn’t commission themselves to write stories so often had to find workarounds if it became necessary.

About 1/3 through The Taint and ohhh Fitz is a right proper loser isn’t he. I wasn’t sure of the reports of him being a bum were exaggerated but no. He sucks. I understand why people love him

Just started my EDA journey with Vampire Science today(Skipped the Eight Doctors cause I heard it isn’t particularly good or necessary) Only 100 pages in but enjoying it so far.

Yeahhh The Eight Doctors, while in my Mind not as bad as many say, it’s definitely not necessarily. Glad you are enjoying Vampire Science so far!

Honestly one can summary The Eight Doctors and nothing of value will be lost to “spoilers”: the Eighth Doctor loses his memory to a trap the Master set in the TARDIS during the movie. He meets Sam Jones and help her fight drug dealers. Police think he is a drug dealer and he is arrested. He escapes. He goes throughout time and space visiting his previous incarnations to regain his memory, but also to annoyingly retcon merits of some of his previous selves as merits of his. It’s really, really annoying. And boring. He gets all his memories and goes back for Sam. They are now travelling together. The beginning.
