Am I the only one who forgets the stories I listened to?

Like I did Torchwood TSC last year but i still cant remember a single thing, does relistening help with that or not?

I once listened to The Conspiracy for the first time and realised that it was the second time and I’d completely forgotten I’d listened to it.

I can’t remember if I’ve listened to Dalek Empire 4 or not.

But generally I remember main story beats and my overall feeling about a story but I will, obviously, forget the details and the nuances and the gags. This is why relistening (or rewatching etc) can be so rewarding.

If it helps I finished The Conspiracy of Raven boxset this evening and can barely remember a thing about it coz I found it pretty underwhelming sadly

A lot of audio gets lost in my memories, but usually skimming the wiki page will bring it back to me. It’s helpful if I’m listening to a serial that is a sequel to something that I last listened to a few months ago.

It happens all the time. I can usually tell which stories I’ve listened to before by listening to them again until I find a spot I recognize. Had that happens with The Yearn from the Eleventh Doctor Chronicles. It can help a lot yeah

Usually I have to revisit something every few months if I want to keep it fresh in my head - I have listened to a lot of audios but many of them are gone beyond a vague recollection after a week or so. I find writing a review helps, actually, and skimming the wiki page where it exists often bumps the memory

Yeah, it happens. Usually I can refresh my memory with a quick read of the wiki or a review, but especially with boring stories it’s happened. What I personally have much more often is stories that bleed together. Especially if I listen to a lot in a short time it’ll be hard to keep the stories separate in my mind. None of this is specific to audio for me though

It’s really hard to remember audios without the visual aspect to stick in your mind, yeah. I have some audio processing issues plus a so-so mind’s eye and I can usually follow reasonably well when listening, it just makes it harder for me to remember what was up with certain audios in retrospect, compared to TV stories. Let alone the fact that sometimes I can’t process what’s happening in them the first time around :sob:

I forgot those Out of Time ones other than Wink.

Forgot alot of Torchwood Soho, the boxsets kind of merged together for me.

And I know for a fact I’ve forgotten the events of some of the 8DAs with Lucie

It depends. Sometimes you just forget the Story because of the amount of other Stories (especially in the Audio Medium). Other times some are just too “bland” to be remembered, that’s at least the Case with me and the Stories which I can barely recall, and I’d argue I am somebody who can recall Media quite well (maybe not all the Nuances at times). So for something to be barely remembered by me, it really has to be as boring as they came.

Like others already suggested, doing reviews or looking at what the Wiki says often helps to recall, especially with some finer details, which often can get lost quickly.

Yeah it happens to the best of us. But this way I can listen to a story “for the first time” and be sure it’s a 5/5! (?)

You’re definitely not the only one! I listen to so many stories that I’m bound to forget a lot, especially since I very rarely relisten. I might remember certain parts of an audio when I relisten to it, and the really impactful ones I obviously remember better, but for the most part, I couldn’t really recite the plot of an audio I listened to a couple of days ago.

Happens all the time. Usually because I don’t pay attention properly, and relistening helps sort that out. But sometimes a story is just kind of forgettable. I love most big finish, but a few do feel kind of unremarkable and difficult to distinguish between without visuals to mark them out.

I’ve also noticed that ever since they stopped doing unique covers for each story in a boxset, so stuff like Stranded or gallifrey post-TW1, I find it much harder to remember the order these stories happen in, their titles, and where each ones begin and end.

I’d say it happens most of the time for me, bar the ones that stick out. However, that being said, I find that with any media if I binge it, I’ll forget lots. Its like with Classic Who I have huge memory gaps with lots of stories/eras cause I binged it.

Yeah I’m awful for this, especially if it’s been over a year
