A Galaxy Far Far Away - A Star Wars Thread

Honestly I think I’d rather they don’t have Baylen in it out of respect, but will see

I think Stevenson’s performance was part of what made him so good, and I can’t see anyone else replicating it

Shin is an interesting character. I hope they develop her more.

Oh absolutely agreed

There so much in Ahsoka I loved, even not having seen rebels (or most of clone wars), and I can’t wait for season 2

I’ll def give it a watch when it comes out, but I won’t be expecting much. It’ll be more of a watch to get a couple of good moments rather than expecting a great overall show.

I think that makes sense.

I love Star Wars, though I kind of hated it when I was younger, because my brother was a big fan when he was little. He wasn’t really allowed to watch all of the movies because my mum thought they were too violent and scary (and secretly I agreed, when we first watched Phantom Menace I was terrified even though I adored Padmé) but any chance he got he made us all watch Return of the Jedi and, once my dad found them, those Ewok movies, because he loved the ewoks.

I didn’t actually become a fan until after I’d been convinced to watch the Last Jedi in the cinemas by my brother and my dad and then discovered the clone wars. I adore Ahsoka, as a character and in her show too. The mandalorian was a great hit for our whole family, and so where most of the new shows. Haven’t watched the acolyte, I was initially excited for it but after the reviews came in and I read that one character I’d liked in the books (I did read some of the high republic books and comics) wasn’t done well in it, I probably won’t.

Anyone who has been avoiding The Acolyte because of public opinion - ignore it!

The reviews are by butt-hurt “fans” who don’t like change, the show is amazing.

You told me Andor was good…not sure I trust your judgement.

There’s no accounting for taste!

I saw the trailers, it didn’t interest me. I’ll watch it eventually.

I actually kind of hope they recast Baylan Skoll - I want to know more about what his deal was to get to that other galaxy. They can’t leave it hanging with Baylan standing on that statue! :slightly_smiling_face:

Star Wars has been always in a love-hate relationship for me, I am not sure if I would classify myself as a Fan despite checking out a good chunk of the Universe. Admittedly, maybe my distance came because of how certain “Fans” behaved about the Franchise. But anyway here are some of my thoughts:

  • The original Trilogy is still a classic all those years later, the pratical effects are superb, and the story is just a very fun adventure story. They are beloved for a reason! My favorite out of the bunch would probably be “Return of the Jedis”, such a fun Movie which balances both the silly and more serious Moments of the Franchise so well. The other two are also amazing and I adore them
  • The prequel Trilogy is okay. I don’t feel strongly about it either way, the effects didn’t age too well and the dialogue at times felt wonky, but there are some great Moments and especially when it comes to the World building it’s great. Revenge is probably the best out of the bunch.
  • The sequel Trilogy is on hand a disappointment for me, another one, it’s not as bad as a lot of people say it is. It has its issue, but overall I think they are much better than a lot of people give them credit for. As a trilogy? Pretty bad. As their own movies? A mixed bag. I liked “Force Awakens”. Adored (for the most part) “Last Jedi” and didn’t care for “Rise” (dare I say the probably worst theatrical Star Wars movie, right behind the Clone Wars one).
  • Watched the Clone Wars Movie (not very good) and watched some of its Arc, I especially like the one surrounding on Maul besides that, haven’t seen enough of the show to properly judge it
  • Clone Wars (2003) is great, probably some of the best Action for a televised Star Wars Show
  • Watched only the first two Seasons of Mando, wasn’t too huge on the first, and didn’t really like the newer Approach of the second one.
  • Rogue One is pretty good, Andor is amazing, probably my favorite of the live Action Shows that I’ve seen.
  • The Obi Wan Show is a pretty mixed bag for me, I like some parts and didn’t like some parts at all. The Directing is at times a bit baffling for me. Loved seeing McGregor return to the Role
  • Watched the first Episode of the Book of Boba Fett and realized again that I kinda don’t really care for the Character. I can see why he became so huge, and I am sure the pre-Disney EU made a lot of his character, but personally for me, he was never really a favorite. Can’t say much on the Show due only having seen a bit of it.
  • I enjoyed Rebels, some excellent Episodes, not totally in love with its Artstyle (I prefer TCW Artstyle much more) but it’s still a nice show and if I am not mistaken it even has Tom Baker!
  • I liked Solo, but I have only seen it once, so I am not sure if my Opinion would remain the same on it.
  • The EU Thrawn Trilogy is splendid (I mean the first one, didn’t get around to reading the new one)
  • The Holiday Special is one of the most interesting fever dreams I’ve ever had, funny how this is one many people apparently had!
  • I really enjoyed the creativity of Visions, surprised nobody mentioned that show (haven’t fully seen it all, but from what i’ve seen, even with the ones that don’t hit me, I still admire all those different takes and stories told there). Highly recommending that one!
  • Anybody remembering the best Star Wars Show named Droids? No…? Just me…? Well okay then!
  • I watched some Lego Stuff, they did, and I must admit most of it has the typical Lego Charm (but admittedly those don’t come close to stuff such as the first theatrical LEGO Movie and so on)
  • Haven’t seen Ashoka, The Acolyte and Mando Season 3 so no comments on those.
Overall, I have some mixed feelings on the Franchise and its current state. Especially when following the News of it, we somehow get so many new Shows, while most of its planned Movies get cancelled. Hoping the Series returns to the Theater, since I kinda miss the more “prestige” Feeling of Star Wars in a Movie Theater rather than to stream yet another Disney+ Show. @ChrisStokes put it best, so I am not going to elaborate much further on it. I am a bit fatigued on the Franchise, so I haven’t kept myself up to date since Andor, but I am sure I will eventually check out the other shows or see if they might be for me. Until then, may the force be with you all!

I think the coolness of Boba Fett was that he was a mostly silent bounty hunter with a cool outfit. The old Legends EU fleshed out his backstory somewhat, and Lucas rewrote it in Attack of the Clones.

My favorite Boba Fett stuff is in Legacy of the Force where Boba and his granddaughter train Jaina Solo to take down her twin brother Jacen who had become the Sith Darth Caedus and had killed Fett’s daughter during his rise to power.

Skeleton Crew seems to be getting decent reviews. I’m excited to jump into that!

Yes - we’re tempted to jump to that one despite having not watched Mandalorian 3, Acolyte or Ahsoka. It looks fun so will hopefully wash the bad taste of Andor out of our mouths.

Oh it’s probably not connected to those anyway and much more lighthearted.
It seems to be going for a nice christmas-y atmosphere too, which I find lovely!

They shouldn’t shy away from christmas specials anymore. It’s been long enough to forget the thing lol

Just saw that the Mando Movie has finished filming.

The Skeleton Crew trailer really put me off the series, something about it just screams ‘awful’, and I can’t put my finger on what.

Oh it did the complete opposite for me. Big Goonies vibes which is always a good thing in my book (adore that film).

This guy is probably why I don’t like it:
