You're going to love this - A Fugitive Doctor Thread

But the Fugitive was used?

I would just like to say I really don’t want to get into an argument here and I am sorry if I’m being overly defensive.

I would argue that she isn’t used. She is there, and she introduces a mystery, but not more than that. It is almost as if River Song was only in the Library and the first story with Matt Smith (I am terrible with episode names) and never showed up after that. That is what it feels like to me.

Me neither. I don’t want to remove any enjoyment that you get from her either.

That’s not a bad analogy actually.

Tbh, I don’t see you or anyone here arguing. There’s a pluraity of opinions but no one is shouting over each other. Refreshing on the interwebs.

PS - my opinion on all things Dr Who & beyond are correct.

I both agree and disagree with you. To me, in Season 12, the mystery wasn’t “who is the fugitive Doctor”, it was “who is the timeless child?” Martin’s appearance adds to that mystery, giving clues and feeding speculation. Sure, there’s not too many hanging mysteries in Doctor Who (The woman from End of Time is one off the top of my head), but I also think it would have been really dissatisfying to introduce this mysterious Doctor and then immediately explain her away.
To me, that’d be similar to having River Song explained by the end of Season 4, and I like that they left it open to potentially be answered by a new showrunner in the future, and I like that it returns mystery to the Doctor’s origins.

That being said, I do think her appearances have been all too brief, and I would love love love to see more of her. Big Finish seems to be setting up it’s own mystery “I see you, but I do not fear you!” and it looks like 15 may encounter her (or her consequences) in the future, which could lead to interesting stories.

Oops, ignore, the video was posted earlier!

I would love to see a proper appearance of the Fugitive Doctor rather than cameos as others pointed out. I enjoyed her a lot in Fugitive of the Judoon and it would be nice to see her team up with 15.

Gonna add my own two cents to me.

Same with @Jamie, if done with enough Creativity throughout the EU, I can see Martin becoming a fan favorite quickly simarly as 8 did despite his super limited TV Run. While I love both Actors and wouldn’t mind more TV Time with them, I don’t necessarily crave it (I do actually crave a Continuation for the EDAs more or a Book Range for Fugitive in the vain of later EDAs than actual TV Spin-offs).
While I enjoyed the first Boxset, I hope they go out-there, I want some crazy Stories! Go out there! Give me Fugitive vs. Eldritch Horror. Make her have a Space Shakespearean Drama with the Luparis and so on. I just hope whatever the Future has in store for Fugitive, it’s creative. I haven’t really delved into the Carley War Doctor Stories yet, but I heard those are excellent and go out-there these days! So I am hoping if anything we really delve into the Potential of crafting a whole new Doctor Tenure on Audio with some unforgettable Tales!

As far as her TV tenure is concerned: Who knows? Maybe RTD will use her more, maybe we get a whole Episode with her, but for now I think this Discussion is probably better waited for a potential third Season and even then, who knows if there are really any Plans. I’d be happy, since more Martin is always good, just as long as we don’t focus on the Mystery (I get the desires for answers, but I think a lot of Who Mysteries don’t really have the most compelling answers. And really I think any kind of Answer(s) now would be just unsatisfying for anybody really).

There’s also a non-zero chance that she’ll show up in The War Between

I listened to her first audio adventure yesterday and enjoyed it. Fade is adorable, and I would have loved for her to be a permanent companion.

I don’t necessarily agree with the producers’ take that “this incarnation of the Doctor is defined by always being on the run” based on her happening to be on the run on the two occasions when we see her on TV. I worry that if that’s the approach BF take with her, the stories are going to get samey really fast. She deserves to be able to have the same range of different sorts of adventures as any other Doctor.

She kind of seems like a reimplementation of the original concept of Sixie as a more unlikeable Doctor, but it works better for her, thanks to her not needing to fit into weekly TV adventures with a companion.

I also saw The Timeless Children the day before yesterday, and man, for an episode that the fandom does the most over, I found it pretty anodyne! Not in a bad way either. I think it’s a funny case of a lot of the fandom being obsessed with The Lore, which I could barely care less about (cf. UNIT dating controversy).

Running’s pretty much a standard Doctor trait anyways…

DOCTOR: Nice to meet you, Rose. Run for your life!

Not to mention it’s basically a Catchphrase of the second Doctor!

I’m thinking that maybe because the Doctor was fully mind-wiped and reset into a child, if they opened the watch and regained all of their lost memories, it wouldn’t overwrite who they are from Hartnell onwards because with John Smith and Ruth Clayton, they were invented personalities and backstories by the TARDIS that were downloaded into the Doctor’s head, whereas with their reset by Division the Doctor got to actually grow up from a baby and build a real identity of their own. Plus, I think the Fugitive Doctor going on the run from Division and Tecteun fits nicely character evolution wise before Hartnell, and so I think the person that Hartnell’s Doctor chose to be might build off of the Fugitive Doctor’s desire to be free of Division and Tecteun, and be who they want to be that hasn’t been influenced by Tecteun’s parenting and brainwashing.
