@ineffyble pointed out that where it says “Register for free” it sounds like the site is monetised more than it is. Also that it’s not really the wording sites use nowadays, they tend to use “Sign Up”.
Also on the homepage I use “Join for free” too.
So just asking the group mind what you think I should change it to, please vote in the poll or answer below with thoughts!
I use ‘For Free’ just because I’ve been bitten before by sites that say ‘Sign up’ and then it asks credit card details or something… not sure, what do you think?
LOL, currently, I’m the only one who voted “Keep it ‘Register for free’.”
Thinking about it, probably just a kind of “language bias.” In German, I would say “Registrieren” for what is meant by “Sign up.” So it feels just right.
(And I really do like it when it’s crystal clear that something is for free.)
I thought the same thing when i was the only one who had yet voted for register, but with the Dutch ‘registreren’.
The Dutch equivalent of sign up would be ‘meld aan’ which doesn’t really work. Only conjugated it would be ‘aanmelden’ which is in regular use. But that doesn’t resemble the English words anymore.
Interesting, the German alternative for “registrieren” is “anmelden,” which has a double meaning: it could mean login (I’d say more common) but also sign up.
