I thought that it could be fun to have a thread where we share a bite of our recent year.
I had a great year. Started a new job that I love. My kids have been less sick than previous years. I got married in a beautiful place. I joined this lovely community.
My year has been a little up and down. School has been long and I’ve been run down with it, but getting my Airframe certification felt really good. And though the start of my year was rough with my personal life and falling out with a friend, the second half was good with spending time with my friends who are good to me.
And of course I started using Tardis Guide!!
Number one thing that made this year is obviously that I got married in January and we had a beautiful little wedding and have enjoyed married life a lot so far (it’s basically exactly the same as before but we get to refer to each other as “my wife” now which is fun).
Number two is that I’ve made a few new friends through this fandom, particularly through Thassie twitter, including someone who has quickly become one of my absolute best friends who I talk to basically every day
Didn’t make my year: No Tardis Guide in my life in January
Made my year: The amazing and steadily growing Tardis Guide community from February onwards
Well, I completed watching classic, so that’s a positive for the year.
OTOH, got laid off in 2024, and still need to find a job.
On the good side of that, I was very tired of taking calls, and had been at my last job for 23 years, so was very ready for something different. I actually feel good about not working there any more, just not on the side of needing money and a job.
The fact that I don’t have a drivers license or car doesn’t help, either. A remote job where I work at home was a good spot to be in, and I’ll likely have to be back on the busses again.
Ah well, taking it one day at a time. Part of me wants to see if I can make my various hobbies make me money, but it seems somewhat unlikely…
Does leave me a little more on the what hasn’t made your 2024 side, though.
This is the first full year I’ve been at uni! Crazy to think that a year ago I’d just started, and in just a few months I will be halfway done with my bachelor’s degree. I’ve made some very good friends this year and managed to keep my friends from school close for the most part so I’m very happy with that. This year hasn’t always been easy, but I feel like I learned a lot about what I can and can’t do and who I am. And I’m getting better at getting through the rough spots okay. I hope that next year I’ll be able to use some of the things I learned to make my life better!
And of course, I joined this wonderful website and fandom this year! I never would have thought just how big a part of my life doctor who would become last year, but it genuinely fills my life with so much joy!
I’ve had probably the busiest year of my life! And it was very much a year in three parts.
I was working part-time for the first few months of the year, away from home, which was great in some ways but also absolutely exhausting! I was just about ready to drop when I came home
My summer was extremely lovely– lots of time with family and friends, and I went on a wonderful holiday hot-footing it round Europe on trains! The last part of the year has been much busier, given that I’m now at uni full-time, but that experience has been great so far.
I lost a few people close to me this year, which has been rough. But I’ve also made new friends and strengthened extant friendships, and felt very supported. So, all is well.
And of course I love coming in tardis.guide and chatting about all things Who <3 it makes every day that bit better!
Here’s to 2025!
I’ve had a great year.
We went on some amazing trips.
I had a bit of a dip at one point, and decided to start doing some therapy, which has actually been way more helpful than I imagined it would be. I feel like I’m able to connect to my parents again in a way I have been avoiding all my adult life.
I became a grandad at the ripe old age of 39
And my little hobby website which I spent a lot of time on actually has become a lovely community which I visit every day and makes me happy every day!
Thank you everyone here for being a big part of why this year has been so much fun, and here’s to even more in 2025!
I graduated from high school this year and started college. I also write a lot and joined this community.
The bad things are that I’ve struggled to keep up in school and haven’t made as much progress as I would like for my current fic
Something that both made and didn’t make my year is writing. I wrote 67 works of fanfiction in 2023, which led me to believe I could nearly double that in 2024, and I decided to try and write 100 works in one year. It turned out to be a lot more difficult than I expected, and I burned myself out pretty bad. I’m still wrapping up some stories, and hopefully by the end of the day I’ll have 81 from this year. It’s less than I had hoped, but it’s still an impressive amount, and I need to learn to be happy with it. I’m definitely not gonna be quite so ambitious next year.
On the happier side, I found a few lovely communities in the past year, including, of course, TARDIS Guide, and made some new friends. I also got really into cat colour genetics, which I really cannot recommend enough, especially if you have a large stray population where you live. I already enjoyed seeing cats around, but now I identify their colours and it brings me so much joy.
Another thing is that, for the first time even, I actually managed to get into Classic Who! I tried a few times as a kid while waiting for new series to come out, but I didn’t know about missing episodes and always got stuck thinking something was wrong with my copy of Marco Polo. But here I am, many years later, having watched the vast majority of Classic and finally ready to revisit those early seasons and missing episodes.
Also, I took my first trip out of the country on my own, as an adult, and paid for everything myself. That was very exciting. I never thought I’d be able to do that.
Oh and I forgot to add, The Stuff of Legend Live and meeting with lots of you fine folks was also absolutely a highlight of the year
The quiz was loads of fun too.
We need to plan another meet up sometime!
Agreed! So when are we taking the ferry/plane to Stockholm to meet up?
Would honestly be a lot easier for me, so I’m all for this choice
Fine! Everybody, let’s meet in the lovely Danish town known as Home!
Home-town. Can’t see anything wrong with that!
Well I’m seriously considering going to TimeLash next year, which is pretty close to you guys…
(I want to go to Gallifrey One but think it’s a bit daunting for my first convention, and is also very soon and a very long way to travel, not sure I can convince my husband to go there…)
Joining TARDIS Guide, of course!
