What is your most controversial opinion?

I believe there were multiple reasons. Merchandising would’ve been one, cynically. Other reasons were likely the height of the actors, and Gatiss/Moffat being fans of the movie Daleks which they remembered as being big and imposing. Making them bolder and bigger (and brighter) was one of their main aims.

I think the darker paint jobs seen in Asylum worked so much better for them, and it’s a shame we didn’t get those from the off. It’s also a shame, in hindsight, we never learnt what each Dalek’s name meant. I recall, in Confidential, Moffat teasing that maybe one day we’d learn what the heck the Eternal did/meant, but alas.

Also a shame we never saw the ‘weapons hatch’ in action. I think we needed that to happen in Victory. Honestly think it would’ve reduced some of the backlash. “Yes, there’s a weird hunchback shape, but it’s because of a weapons hatch and here it is in action!” And then we just never got to see such a concept, and the Paradigms from then on were only ever shot from the front or in amongst a crowd.

Yeah I agree. It felt like backpedalling though, I think. Like the design didn’t go over well so they tried to walk it back a little and reintroduce the bronze Daleks, even though that didn’t feel like the intent from the outset. I’m glad they weren’t dropped entirely though, as we saw them in Series 7 and heard them in Smith’s finale.

Thanks!

Semi-related but not really. Why are many Doctor Who actors tall? What do you mean that Tennant, Smith and Capaldi, and Gillian are 6ft? I only found out about this because I wanted to know the height difference between 12 and Clara.

Pfft, Nobody would call a website that…

Most celebrities I personally come across aren’t on the shorter side, including women. I’m always surprised when I find someone who is. Not Doctor Who, but I’m watching another show where, as is typical, the actors and actresses all stand around the same height, but the main character is extremely short (I.e. the avr height for a woman) compared to the others even when she’s in heels. I’ve never seen that contrast before.

But yes, lots of six-footers in the DW universe. You can add Davison, Tom, and Colin to your list.

Peter Davison is my favorite Doctor and i think his era is the best of Classic Who

Because I’ve never listened to any of Gallifrey, I have no idea who Narvin is, and just pretend everyone’s talking about Garak from Deep Space 9.

I mean, I don’t know if you can equate Narvin with Garak, they’re not really that similar. Paging @sircarolyn. Plus, you really just need to listen to Gallifrey.

Admittedly, youtube’s recommended videos to me seem to be on your side on that one…

I’m not the right person to page here, I’m not that familiar with Garak  if he’s pathetic, uptight, doggedly loyal, unlearning his xenophobia, and fun to blow up then sure, they’re similar

So glad you opened up with the word pathetic  He’s my little meow meow

All that guy does is stand around spluttering in confusion and get blown up

Not sure if controversial, but I’ll throw this down anyway – I think the 14th/15th Doctor title sequence is one of the worst we’ve ever had.

My immediate response was no it isn’t then I thought, actually what is the title sequence of this era? I couldn’t remember momentarily.

The visuals are fine, but it’s easily my least favorite version of the music by a considerable margin
