What is your most controversial opinion?

It’s also debatable how much of Genesis is actually Nation and how much is Holmesian rewrites.

idk Ido really like The Daleks, but then Nation must have also liked it with how he resubmitted the script at every opportunity…

I think my list of controversial opinions could fill a book, and a lot of them are argument starters, not to mention argument being one of primary methods of communication, but I’m here to make friends, so I’ll only let slip one little bit of madness (well, two, considering anyone on the discord now knows how much I love Rings of Akhaten):

Paradise Towers is basically perfect and is the best Seven episode.

OK if it’s safe to let out the Nation hate here too, I’ll say that I think Terry Nation was a hack (and a greedy one at that) who basically spent a long time profiting off the work of designers and actors who did a lot more to bring the Daleks to life than he did.

really funny to see everybody talking about Zagreus in here lol. i totally get why people wouldn’t like it (extra long, chock full of lore + references from the EU so its not super approachable, and the aforementioned self-deprication) but its ABSOLUTELY one of my favorites. like i wish i could put my brain in a robot body that never got tired or hungry so i could sit down and write/draw a full comic adaptation of the whole thing. constantly on my thoughts. plus i am so infatuated with Tepes as a character in spite of them only existing for like 2/3s of this one story and never coming up again. Zagreus my love…
I think series 7 of Nu Who kind of blows. there are many pieces of it i love, but in general it feels like such a mess and indulges some of the worst parts of Moffat’s writing. s6-7 definitely is worse off for having been a follow up to series 5, which is such a perfect, tight story for a season of a show, and SO thematically strong and focused. s5 ends with a big explosive shark-jump that feels a bit silly, but in a way thats coherent with the whole season being very fantastical and themed around imagination (among other things). s6 and s7 both try to replicate and one-up that finale and it just doesn’t land the same. then there’s also s7 Clara’s lack of characterization beyond a couple shallow traits, and Moffat’s horniness getting pretty unbearable by the end there. like…since when does the Doctor notice women’s asses. keep it in your pants man.

It also didn’t help help that Moffat was working on both Doctor Who and Sherlock at the same time. Both of which are very clever shows. So unfortunately, one or the other was destined to suffer because of Moffat overextending himself.

Probably not my most controversial but I like Power of the Daleks more than Remembrance of the Daleks :joy: :dalek:

I feel the opposite way, but realistically, I want my Remembrance of the Daleks and Power of the Daleks. And Dalek. All those are pretty high as far as Dalek stories for me.

Okay, here’s one: I don’t care much for the Daleks. I think they have a really cool and visually distinctive design, but I can take or leave most of their stories. While playing the elimination game I realised just how few of those episodes I actually care about, let alone remember well. I also think they’re somewhat overused as villains. I think that’s something Moffat’s era had going for him, at least partially: most of his recurring villains were new, and he didn’t overuse the classic ones like RTD tended to. I don’t need to see the Daleks three episodes a season, thanks.

Daleks are absolutely overused. The issue is that they have been defeated so many times, they seem weak now.

But they are so iconic we can’t go without them.

I actually really liked how Chibnall gave them a bit of a rest, and only wheeled out the Daleks for special occasions - when non-fans were mostly likely to tune in and want to see a Dalek. That was a good idea.

I of course do want to see the Fifteenth Doctor go up against his biggest nemesis, but am happy if that doesn’t happen for a while. I really hope Empire of Death (this years Finale) doesn’t involve Daleks, Cybermen or the Master. Let’s have something different please!

I’ve had the exact opposite reaction, it has made me realise how many of the Dalek stories I really care about
And I don’t know if I necessarily agree that they are overused, at least not when looking at the TV episodes - hasn’t it only been 4 stories the last 7 years? Or am I forgetting something?

It’s not the best because we all know that’s Delta…but it is marvellous and I love it. I especially love the Rezzies and that cliffhanger to episode 2.

Yeah, Paradise Towers and the Happiness Patrol are two of 7’s episodes I love.

I actually think the world building was great on Paradise Towers, and loved all the slang they were dropping in and such. “Build high for happiness” actually stuck in my mind as a phrase…

Paradise Tower is my favorite seven-story. It is so much fun.

Your second favourite seven-story is what I’m sure you meant to type…

Nope. Which one is better?

Well obviously Delta and the Bannermen

Well, I gave that one a 3/5. Maybe that is my controversial opinion of the day :joy:

In regards to Delta and the Bannermen I may have made a slight mistake…
I sat this morning watching the last episode and my five year old saw a bit of it.

Long story short he has spent the last 4 hours trying to sound like a Chimeron princess…
