Started The Kaleidoscope last night (thank you to those who voted in the poll) but kept falling asleep so I’ll start again later today.
I’ve been picking up and putting down a lot of things since being completely devastated by Divided Loyalties (in a good way). But I think I’ve finally decided that its time to do Empire of Glass. Time for more of my beloved Braxiatel…
Reading the DWM comic Fire and Brimstone and we get a panel of Izzy reading Discworld. Never read them (and no plan to), but thought this was a fun easter egg for those who have.
I’m also fairly certain that RTD read DWM, because Fire and Brimstone does the Transmat disguised as Dalek death ray eight years before Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways.
I think this is also the book with the fun Jar Jar Binks reference that I added as a quote.
I don’t think I’ve got to that yet, but there is a reference to the Doctor’s arch nemesis cat!
A villain so chilling he still fears them in his 10th generation!
Finished reading The Myth Makers this morning and thoroughly enjoyed it! 10/10.
Now, on to Mission to the Unknown!
Just finished The Final Chapter from the DWM comics. That twist at the end of Eight regenerating into the Briggs Doctor must’ve been crazy at the time.
I remembered when I first saw this at the time it came out. My mouth dropped when I saw it. Carrying it on for the next four issues made you believe it was permanent! It was the joy of that time, the cliffhangers really struck. It was the Wilderness Years where anything could happen. A good time to be a fan of the fiction side of Doctor Who.
Which was more shocking? This, or Ace’s death in Ground Zero?
Having finally slogged through the hugely disappointing All Flesh Is Grass, I’m now moving on to an unlicensed book that I’ve never heard anyone mention anywhere. It’s a parody novel that simultaneous apes Doctor Who and Lynne Truss’ droll non-fiction book about English grammar, Eats, Shoots and Leaves. As a Whovian (yes I said it) and a linguist, I couldn’t resist it when I found it in a charity shop. But I have zero idea what to expect. Has anybody here read or come across Doctor Whom?
Currently reading Sixth Doctor comic strip - Voyager. Such a fantastic, imaginative story. I love that fantasy element the DWM puts into their comic. The illustrations are incredibly! It was Ace’s death in Ground Zero that made my think what they did at the end of The Final Chapter may of been permeant. The Tv Movie had failed to produce a series and I thought now anything was open for DWM to take things in whatever direction they wanted! They certainly made it feel like that. It was excellent! Everything was such, unknown!
Remember to drop your thoughts into the Comic Club thread.
Reading Earthworld now. Enjoying it a lot so far, very silly but very fun.

I am reading Fourth Doctor VMA Evolution. It is not a highly regard book by many but I am really enjoying it. I am finding myself getting easily drawn in and I can easily imagine myself in that world. I’m not minding it at all. I’m about halfway through and moving quite rapidly. It’s really caught my attention! The same was with EDA The Bodysnatchers. The same thing. While with VMA Venusian Lullaby - I struggle!

As part of spooky month, I’ve started reading ‘Dracula!’. Considering how much I enjoy the original Bram Stoker book (currently on Year 5 of Dracula Daily, according to my emails), this seemed like a fairly easy horror story to go with!
Only 25% of the way through, but so far, it’s living up to expectations. I wasn’t sure whether it would be the Doctor and co. living out the events of the book or some alternative format, but I think them arriving 10 years after the original events works quite well.
Looking forward to seeing how it continues!
