Not sure why it’s taken me so long given that I love mysteries and think Martin Short and Steve Martin are fantastic but I finally started Only Murders in the Building.
It isn’t what I expected at all and it’s brilliant. I put it off because I think I was expecting something which didn’t play fair with the actual mystery (not entirely sure why I’d assumed that but it must have come from somewhere) but that’s not the case at all.
Not saying anything fans of it don’t already know but it’s just wonderful and Selena Gomez (whose work I’ve not been massively familiar with up till now) is extraordinary.
Annoyed I’m late to the party but really glad I’ve got so much to catch up on.

OMitB is utterly utterly brilliant. The mysteries are well-plotted and it is hilarious from beginning to end. And it has such good casts for each series. I mean, Meryl Streep FFS! And yes, Selena Gomez is superb and matches Short and Martin beat for beat.

It is amazing! Especially season 1. You don’t need to like football to like it. It is beautiful, sweet, and funny!

Thank god. Stupid decision to end it after S3, and what an awful season/finale it was.
I hate football but S1/2 are incredible.

I did not like the shift from sitcom to more drama. Season 3 was okay but nothing like s01-02.

Spoiler territory but…
S3 CONTINUED to build up the will they wont they nature of TedBecca, even connecting them further with all the things the psychic said, just for Ted to piss off and never resolve their relationship which was clearly what they intended to do. Both of them having trauma on the same anniversary? So many things tied them together.
I was delighted that they canonised two characters as gay in S3, two faves of mine so that was good!
The whole finale episode was just awful, Jamie and Roy’s development being undone when they fought over Keeley!? Why couldn’t they have explored the throuple option… Saw lots of people wanted it and IMO Jamie is 100% not straight so…
I really hope S4 fixes the wrongs of S3, I loved how they included dramatic storylines, but they fumbled most of the outcomes for every character so bad, and it just felt so unsatisfying so I was glad when S4 got announced. I get ending shows so they dont drag on, but S3 felt a premature end to the show.

Oh see I thought the end of s3 was very fitting and I remember it as not needing any more added to the end. I’ll probably watch s4 out of intrigue more than anything

I really like that Ted and Becca are just best friends. There are too few male and female friendships in media. As a man with mostly female friends, I really liked to see that.
I don’t think that would have fit the characters at all.
This is the only thing I felt was wrong with S03. There are too few comedies that dare to be comedies anymore, and seasons 1 and 2 had it at the perfect amount.
I mostly agree with you. Too few shows end when they are still good, and Ted Lasso was still good. But that is also why I want more!

Agree a million times over. I like shipping in general in fandom territory but it is so nice to see TV shows where not everything just has to end in romance the whole time
