I thought it was a great story. The anthology style of it was very interesting and made the story fresh each episode. The last episode was probably the weakest of them all as the Voord aren’t necessarily the strongest villains but the rest of the episodes being fantastic made up for that in my eyes. I loved the court scenes as well and Hartnell really got to shine in them
8.8/10
Another of Toby Hadoke’s extensively researched and immacutely written/presented podcats tackles the first episode of The Keys of Marinus. 100% worth a listen:
I thought I remembered not rating this one very much, but having rewatched it I actually had a lot of fun. It’s not my favourite, but it’s very compelling and manages to keep being interesting despite the number of episodes. Our main four are absolutely stunning too - William Russell is such a compelling actor and completely impossible to stop watching, and Jacqueline Hill is obviously wonderful. And I know a common criticism of Susan is she’s boring and has nothing to do a lot, but I still adore her. I love how Carole Ann Ford manages to imbue her every performance with little mannerisms that make her seem like both a strange teenager and a completely alien being. Every time I watch the first couple of seasons, I remember why she reaonated with me so strongly as a strange teenager <3
On reflection it turns out worse than I originally thought and is close to my least favorite of this first season, but I really like the format idea and it’s cool to see Terry Nation writing a non-Dalek story.
(79 minute fan edit) I didn’t notice anything missing this time, Not much to say about this one
Re-watched the first episode during my lunch break today. I am excited about this one. This was my favourite season 1 story during my first Classic Who marathon.
I know Marinus isn’t great but I’ve really grown to love it over the years. The Velvet Web and Sentence of Death are great episodes.
I think that it is fun that it is more or less a short story collection and not one big story. It is the small stories that are interesting and not the overarching story.
Did have time to rewatch this as well. It is great and feels like something like Macra. I just love Barbera and she is great in this story.
Watched: The Screaming Jungle and The Snows of Terror.
I feel like Screaming Jungle is okay but kind of forgettable. It has some fun moments.
The Snows of Terror has its problems but it is better than it gets credit for. It has action and excitement. I feel like the man who lives in the mountain is an okay villain and overall it is kind of okay.
I am glad that I still enjoy Keys. Next, it is time for a trail!
Vasor! A creepy dude harassing poor Barbara! One of the more memorable characters from Season 1, along with Maestro and Rogue.
No, hold on. I think I’ve got my seasons mixed up…
There’s that Nokia Time Machine at work again…
Such poor jokes just to maintain your lead on the leaderboard. Such desperation.
It’s true though. There are two Season Ones, so it’s easy to get confused!
Finished this and it ends with two great episodes. I really like this story. This and the next one are my highlights from the first season.
