such a fun story, i didn’t like it much at first but it greew on me and i was enjoying it a lot be the second episode. the song was also annoying to me at first but then was stuck in my head for about a week afterwards XD william hartnell seemed to be having a good time, while dodo and steven actually made a good team, so all in all i ended up really liking it
Westerns aren’t really my thing (unless there’s a considerable amount of sci-fi in the mix, like with A Town Called Mercy or even Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), but honestly, it’s that damn song that just turns me away from this one. I appreciate a good musical (albeit the more unorthodox ones: the South Park movie, the original Wicker Man, Reefer Madness the movie musical; that kind of thing) and I recognise that Doctor Who can get real creative with them, both on screen and on audio. But I consider this one of the weaker attempts from this universe, as the repetition of the one song with mild variation didn’t do much for me. I get that it’s very early days in that regard, but even for the '60s, I find it quite underwhelming at best.
I will say, though: It is fascinating to see everyone else’s takes on it. I totally see how others could end up having more fun with it than I did, and the last thing I ever want is to get in the way of what people take joy from (long story short, this is a worry that crops up regularly in my day job). But personally, I just can’t get into it; give me Encore Of The Scorchies any day.
