Absolutely - and they can be even better with the narrated soundtrack from the BBC.
I donât think I have any that are the combined Loose Cannon and BBC Audio version with linking narration, but Iâve heard that strongly recommended as the best way to go if you can.
Some of the recons even have short animated bits, and theyâre pretty good.
I agree with everything youâve said. I always urge people to give one a go. But if itâs not for you, fair enough.
Personally I love the recons and always watch them. I donât find the still images bother me at all. Better than nothing! (but worse than the real episodes )
Personally I think recons are best enjoyed whilst doing something else, that way you can watch and enjoy it without getting too bored!
Always like a good Recon, then again I havenât tried the linked Narration yet properly, so my Mind might change when I eventually get around to it. (But as @sircarolyn said they are still worse than having the real Thing, oh well I suppose we who fans should be grateful for so much still surviving.. hmm, or not I am a Doctor Who Fan, so I am greedy /j
Oh no, please donât do that, at least not on a first-time watch! Youâll lose the little extra context you get from the telensnaps!
I just finished all 7 parts of Marco Polo , it was enjoyable! I wish Ping-Cho didnât get married though
She doesnât! Her ancient fiancee dies before they get married.
Really?? I think I missed that part then
Ohhh thank you
this was the only story in the first doctorâs run that I skipped when I was going in order, it was just too long and I couldnât get into it. I finished it recently though, because I wanted to have them all watched before moving on to the second doctor, and I actually ended up quite liking it, because by this time I was more used to recons and also was missing Ian and Barbara, and Susan, so it was a lot more enjoyable on the second try. I loved the friendship between Susan and Ping-Cho as well, I thought it was quite sweet
I just experienced this story for the fourth time a few days ago, and whereas in the past Iâd done the 30-minute BBC version and the recons, this time I decided to listen to the audio with William Russellâs narration. So I sat back, closed my eyes, and wow, did the story impress so much more this way! Easily a 9/10 now, and I really wish this one would return.
The BBC audio is so lovely and atmospheric! William Russellâs voice is so gorgeous. Itâs like honey.
It really is! I loved the sound effects, particularly things like the sandstorm.
This was the first time I ever watched a reconstructed episode. Beyond that, Iâll also admit that Iâm not a huge fan of the pure historicals (with some very rare exceptions like The Peterloo Massacre). But that really must say something about this story in particular because, even through telesnaps, I really dug how this looked. Itâs a testament to the artistic ambitions that went into it that, even through those stills, the costuming and set design just bursts out of the frame.
I mean, I could take or leave the actual story, but aesthetically, I have a lot of fondness for this one.
