I’ve legit jokingly been wanting this for a long time with that exact title

Personally I don’t think they’re the same person, but I think it’s a fun theory and it can be interesting to look at doctor who from that perspective. I also think it’s interesting as a theory because it has existed for so long already! While I was reading Romana stories in the DWM I actually came across this part that presents the same idea:

This from magazine 173 in 1991, so it’s definitely not a new idea

I’m sure the theory has been around since 1971.

I need to go back and check but there’s a DWM article earlier than that one which suggests it. But the main source I always thought was the FASA role playing game.

There’s plenty of references to the theory in DWM (the tardis wiki page I linked has a breakdown of them all), I just chose not to list them because I wanted to focus on the text

The problem is I think, looking at textual evidence I laid out, I personally think it’s pretty clear they’re separate characters, but yeah, when you get into metatext like DWM, it becomes a bit more murky

Having looked into it (more detail in the original post), the FASA DWRPG says that The Master and The War Chief are seperate characters in a couple of places… it does say The Master and The Monk are the same though

Master and Monk being the same comes across as far more ridiculous to me than the Master and the War Chief being the same.

This kind of “argument” is so ridiculous.
These two instances are sort of similar - Coincidence?

  • Yes of course it’s a coincidence - stop grasping at straws that might just possibly fit with your own personal headcanon agenda…:grin:

I love humans. Always finding patterns in things that aren’t there.

The thing about the Doctor is that they loooove getting into feuds, personal and otherwise. This is tenuous evidence at best, really.

Where I stand on all this is that they are different. Simple as that. Then again, I’ve never quite understood the fascination with the Master in general - they’re a good character and fun, but I guess not the type that I get obsessed with

The Doctor’s in a personal feud with Davros too, and he’s not the Master

Or is he??? :scream::scream::scream:

Depends on the Master. Delgado, Jacobi, Gomez? Yes. Ainley, Roberts, Simm? No.

And yes. I’ll use actor names as the distinguisher and no one can stop me.

Really? I was convinced it was the War Chief but now you say about the Monk… I’ll have to go and check my copy.

I’m the War Chief.

I’m not the Master.
