Ianto’s Inferno vs Rhys and Ianto’s Excellent Barbecue is such an easy choice for me though. The choice between an audio where Ianto whimpers in pain none of the time, vs one where he whimpers in pain loudly for some of the time… hmmmmmm… /lh
The round of 64: matches 17&18
Looks like another set of victories for Ianto from yesterday
First up today we have a sad tale going up against a spooky tale. It’s Jack and Ianto in Broken going up against no one in particular in Widdershins.
- Broken
- Widdershins
Next up is a pair of character who’ve hardly interacted in any corner of Torchwood. Andy in The Flawless Man is up against Tosh in War Chest.
- The Flawless Man
- War Chest
Remember, each poll will be open for roughly 48 hours
The round of 64: matches 19&20
The first match of the day starts off with Ianto in a confined space, where the authors just love to put him. He’s up against Suzie who’s stuck with a Slitheen. The Office of Never Was is up against Sync.
- The Office of Never Was
- Sync
Next up is the battle of the one-time TV villains (if you count episodes 12&13 of series 1 as a two-parter). Bilis in Curtain faces Adam in Madam I’m.
- Curtain
- Madam I’m
Remember, each poll will be open for roughly 48 hours
No polls tonight very sorry, it’s been a very busy day for me - business as usual tomorrow though
The round of 64: matches 21&22
First up today we have happily married Gwen vs the two men who always seem to be chasing after her. Night of the Fendahl is up against The Three Monkeys.
- Night of the Fendahl
- The Three Monkeys
Next we have Andy yet again in Ghost Mission, this time facing Queen Victoria in The Empire Man.
- Ghost Mission
- The Empire Man
Remember, each poll will be open for roughly 48 hours
The round of 64: matches 23&24
A win and a loss, yesterday looks pretty divisive for Andy
First up today we have two stories about life in the countryside away from Cardiff. Ianto in The Great Sontaran War is up against Rhys in Poppet.
- The Great Sontaran War
- Poppet
Next up is Queen Victoria, who I imagine would be very amused by Ianto having a boogie. Save Our Souls is up against Disco.
- Save Our Souls
- Disco
Remember, each poll will be open for roughly 48 hours
It’s a shame the Queen Victoria ones don’t stand a chance. I quite enjoyed them, and plan to do a relisten soon.
But against Disco? Ha. Queen Victoria? More like Queen VicBOREia.
The round of 64: matches 25&26
Looks like another double victory for Ianto from yesterdays matches
First up today we have Ianto on a windy pier in Missing Molly vs Roberta, in the midst of whatever was happening in the 1970’s in Double Part 1.
- Missing Molly
- Double Part 1
Next up is the battle of the James Goss scripts, as Curios vs Sabotage sees Bilis facing Ace and Mr Colchester.
- Curios
- Sabotage
Remember, each poll will be open for roughly 48 hours
Poor Double, it can’t catch a break.
Double is great, but against Missing Molly??
I loved that story. I was getting my 10k in whilst listening to it, and I was CERTAIN I’d figured out where it was going… only to have the rug pulled from under me.
A great tale! Heartbreaking.
Missing Molly was good but I preferred Tube Strike and Disco. Whereas though I rate Double Part 1 lower than Missing Molly overall, Double is just…cool? New team, politics, and a new angle with the autons. Like?? It’s so cool, and such a good idea for a political thriller too. Also Anthony Howell <3
I just think part 2 lets it down so much lol.
The round of 64: matches 27&28
To the surprise of no one at all, Ianto is winning his match from yesterday
The first match of the day sees Tosh in a hospital and Bilis in a Hotel, as Suckers goes up against Deadbeat Escape.
- Suckers
- Deadbeat Escape
Next up is Suzie who needs help from a man in a phone box in Bad Connection, vs Owen who just needs help in general (and Andy) in Gooseberry.
- Bad Connection
- Gooseberry
Remember, each poll will be open for 48 hours
The round of 64: matches 29&30
Looks like yesterdays matches are a win for our main protagonists
It’s rare we have someone up against themselves in this tournament, but today Rhys faces Rhys, as Visiting Hours is up against The Hollow Choir.
- Visiting Hours
- The Hollow Choir
Next up is a battle of the Children of Earth trio, as Jack and Ianto in Serenity go up against Gwen in More Than This.
- Serenity
- More Than This
Remember, each poll will be open for roughly 48 hours
The round of 64: matches 31&32
We’ve finally arrived at the end of the round of 64, and I imagine the decisions will be a lot more difficult going forward
First up today we have Princess Beatrice and the Zygons in Rictus vs Norton, who could probably take down the whole British Empire if he wanted in Everyone’s Dead on Floor Three.
- Rictus
- Everyone’s Dead on Floor Three
Next up is another battle of the couples as Gwen and Rhys in We Always Get Out Alive face Jack and… Jack in Uncanny Valley.
- We Always Get Out Alive
- Uncanny Valley
Remember, each poll will be open for roughly 48 hours
That concludes the round of 64, so there will be no polls tomorrow to allow time for each match to have 48 hours.
If I have time tomorrow however, I may post some stats about the polls we’ve had so far, as I’ve noticed some interesting patterns. Thank you all for playing so far :))
While we take today off from the polls I thought I’d provide some stats from the tournament so far, starting with some attention for the few stories that didn’t receive a single vote throughout the whole process
Thirst Trap, The Crown, Expectant, Oracle, Child Free and The Restoration of Cathrine
One thing I found particularly interesting is how people tend to vote in favour of the earlier stories rather than the later ones. I’m not too surprised to be honest as more people will have listened to the older stories, especially as more of the original cast were around then, but I’ve gone through the results and it looks like 22/32 of the remaining stories in the tournament are from the first 50 main range stories, only 10 being from the latter half.
It’s especially the last few stories that are voted for the least, despite having some of the highest ratings. Only 3 of the remaining stories come from the final 30 entries in the range, and the top two stories by average rating have both been eliminated
I’ll be intrigued to see if these patterns continue for the rest of the tournament, but we’ll just have to wait and see. The round of 32 begins at 10pm (or whenever I’m not busy) tomorrow :))
The round of 32: matches 1&2
Here we are, welcome to the round of 32. This will consist of 16 matches set across 8 days. It will work pretty much exactly the same as the previous round did; if a story looses here, it’s out for good.
First up we have a lovely sounding story, Tropical Beach Sounds and Other Relaxing Seascapes #4, and it’s up against pretty much the opposite, Corpse Day.
- Tropical Beach Sounds and Other Relaxing Seascapes #4
- Corpse Day
Next up is Tosh investigating piracy in torchwood_cascade_ CDRip.tor vs Tosh investigating the theatre in Dinner and a Show.
- torchwood_cascade_ CDRip.tor
- Dinner and a Show
Remember, each poll will be open for roughly 48 hours
The round of 32: matches 3&4
Funnily enough I’m listening to Torchwood One while doing this
First up today we have Coffee, a story that’s sailed through every single round so far vs Double Part 2, a story that’s struggled long and hard to make it this far.
- Coffee
- Double Part 2
Next is Bilis making lives miserable on a train vs Gwen and Martha having a lovely reunion. Dead Man’s Switch is going up against Dissected.
- Dead Man’s Switch
- Dissected
Remember, each poll will be open for roughly 48 hours
The round of 32: matches 5&6
Looks like Double Part 2 is finally being laid to rest after a long struggle
First up is a battle between the early years and the later years, as Broken goes up against The Flawless Man.
- Broken
- The Flawless Man
Next we have a match between two seemingly supernatural entities; one is the frightening Fendahl, and the other is Norton Folgate. Night of the Fendahl is up against Ghost Mission.
- Night of the Fendahl
- Ghost Mission
Remember, each poll will be open for roughly 48 hours
Whilst of course I love Ianto, I found Coffee to be rather disappointing, and Double is a whole lotta fun. Vote Double!
I really like Night Of The Fendahl (and the entire who monster quadrilogy) but Norton and Andy are such a great duo
