And we’re back. Last time, I had done the Philip Hinchliffe era for the bracket tournament, as it was arguably the most popular era of the classic series. When Doctor Who came back in 2005 it did well, but when the Tenth Doctor was on the show, the popularity went to the stratosphere, and it is fair to say that it’s the most popular Doctor Who had ever been. So, in being equivalent to what I had done with the previous bracket tournament, the Tenth Doctor era was the easy choice.
Now, when I say there are 37 entries in this bracket, it does beg a few questions. We are keeping two parters together as stories, and doing the classic "Utopia is a separate story from The Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords. I am keeping the same seeding method as last time, but I am using my old rankings so that no one can just use my current ranking in the other thread to figure out the seeding. In each round I’ll randomize the order in which I’ll present the matches, and which is listed top and bottom, just like last time. Without further ado, here are the first 3 Play-In matches to start this off (there are 5 total, so 3 today, 2 tomorrow).
The total is 37, not 31, I’ve corrected that in the initial post. There’s also no Dreamland, The Infinite Quest, any of the TARDISodes/shorts, The Day of the Doctor, or anything from the 14th Doctor era.
Very exciting, I am curious to see if at any Point I will struggle to chose one, so far it has been quite easy. While The Next Doctor has some major Flaws for me and doesn’t have the ambition that Fear her does, I do overall think it’s a fun Christmas romp.
I always quite enjoyed The Doctors Daughter, so that’s a no-brainer.
And yippie the best tenth Doctor Dalek Story beating Planet of the dead!!
Lmao. Consider that these are the play-in matches, therefore the ones that didn’t get the bye into the first round, therefore my bottom ten. You’ll have what you’re waiting to vote against tomorrow.
Controversial opinion, but I like both Fear Her and The Next Doctor. Also, while I don’t actively dislike Planet of the Dead, how is Daleks In Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks winning?
I was about to defend that Dalek Two-Parter and then realize you voted for it and probably meant to ask why it doesn’t win over PoD (unless I assume incorrectly, correct me if I am wrong). Anyway, yes you are correct, the dalek sec two-parter should win over planet!!!
I think Planet of the Dead is underrated, and the Daleks in Manhattan two parter has such terrible accents I really can’t stand it, the only good thing about it is him:
Fixed that Quote for you
But on a serious Note I am glad you get something out of PoD, to me it’s a fairly weak and at best a ‘meh’ Story, also I just don’t like lady Christina. I do agree having Andrew Garfield in that Two-Parter is lovely, was a bit shocked when I first watched it and went: “Best live action spidey in my doctor who??!?”
