The stars are going out - A Rose Tyler: The Dimension Cannon thread

100% agree. i love how apocalyptic the series is, and all the various themes it gets to explore (not to mention rose’s character development!). and i love the picture of the powell estate this story gives us.

I started my relisten of this set today!

I listened to the first box set back when it came out, but never recorded a rating, so I’m relistening to them before moving on to the rest.

I know some people poke fun at Big Finish for finding gaps and filling them. I even saw someone do that today about the 6 month gap in The Robot Revolution, saying that Big Finish have already planned a box set for this.

But this one is actually genius because not only do we get more Rose, but there’s a really cool science fiction concept of hopping into alternate dimensions, it’s kind of like Quantum Leap or something. Such a clever idea and interesting way to tell some character-based drama.

I listened to The Endless Night and The Flood today, both were really good!

I hadn’t quite realised how much I’d missed Rose  this is getting me very hyped for the Ninth Doctor and Rose audios coming soon!

This was my first BF set. I think that I want to re-listen to it soon.

The premise behind this series is great and agree it’s not a gap we needed explored but I’m so glad they did!! The ending of the final story gave me chills.

I’ve finished the second box set, wasn’t expecting it to end on a cliffhanger, that’s exciting!

I’ve really missed Jackie, love her so much :face_holding_back_tears: can’t wait to hear her again in new stories soon!

Finished the last box set now, and it was a total disappointment to me

I absolutely loved hearing Rose, Jackie, Pete, and Clive in the first two box sets, so to find out that this last set only really features Rose, with some tiny cameos of Jackie, and instead of having dimension-hopping fun each episode it’s just… a boring slog in a single weird alternate Earth, was so dissatisfying.

Plus I just couldn’t take seriously the terms “anti-life” and “pathic”, and really didn’t like the world building, especially as whilst they are supposed to be the same world, each story had a very different idea behind it which made it feel like it was originally another 3 universes and they changed plans last minute.

Oh, what a letdown, probably one of the biggest letdowns in a Big Finish series I’ve heard. I was glad when it was over

Box set 1: 4/5
Box set 2: 4.5/5
Box set 3: 2/5

Agree with you entirely on literally every point :sob:

I did 1/2 when they came out, but did this one only a few months back and couldn’t believe how much I really didn’t like it.

I just remembered what the first two Dimension Cannon boxsets remind me of: the early seasons of Sliders. I have a soft spot for stories with characters traveling to very different dimensions but being unable to return to their own.
