What did u think of catastropix?

With The Angels part 1 (as in part 1 the story, not part 1 of 4) was GREAT! Its a shame that its taken until the final set of Harry/Naomi for me to really get into a story. I really love the concepts and Dorney just on top form as always.

Half way through it’s good so far

Catastrophix what a nice bridge story to continue the set

High praise! I just finished the set and it was by far the best Naomi/Harry set out of all their appearances with 4/7. They’re not in it a huge amount (thankfully ) and Ray shines so much in it. Some great Weeping Angel concepts too, really can’t wait for what comes next for 7/Ray.

Oh this set is perfect I want to recommend it as a starting point but cause Harry n naiomi are there you can’t really recommend it as a starting point sadly but still a banger

I’d say its a fairly simple enough one to start on tbh, like the previous stories added not a lot. If you know a basic rundown.

Just finished With the Angels 1-2, absolutely phenomenal but I’m really worried about Naomi :sob:

Also finished the first half of With the Angels. Lots of fun! I’m very interested in how the plot is going to tie up. And RAY!! :smiling_cat_with_heart_eyes:

First half of With the Angels done! Review coming later, but I’ll say this for now: it’s a return to form for this range! Another brilliant tale on the Angels, expertly growing tension, and a wonderfully manipulative Seven. Makes me really worried about what’s going to happen to Naomi. I hope it’s not a fake-out.

I listened to the first half of Catastrophix as well, and I like how it’s a middle part that gives more context to the Angel story. Also, Ray’s action is great to hear!

So, the first story was phenomenal! As I said, it uses the Angels in a great way, mixes in a Chessmaster Seven, and some poignant jabs at rich industrialists. I had a blast from beginning to end, and that conclusion in particular was harrowing, followed by WICKED!

9/10

With the Angels is a standout Weeping Angels story—not because it relies on fear, but because it leans into emotional devastation and temporal complexity. With its twin Doctors, divided companions, and terrifying chess-set Angel concept, it balances horror with tragedy in true Seventh Doctor style.

The plot is intricate, the performances are excellent, and the emotional payoff is quietly brutal. In other words: classic McCoy.

Catastrophix is a good middle chapter. Slower and not as compelling, but with an interesting structure and premise. Ray’s return makes it a joy to listen to. One thing that bugs me is the ending, and especially how the companions’ exits are just there, with no bigger dramatics. They could’ve written a more dramatic exit for Naomi, but they didn’t go there.

7/10

Catastrophix may not be the most thrilling story in Past Forward, but it is the most thoughtful. With its rich thematic resonance, clever structure, and the welcome return of Ray, it’s a satisfying middle chapter. The apocalypse-by-corporation plot is compelling, and Madoc Howell is one of the more layered antagonists Big Finish has crafted in recent memory.

Ray’s reintroduction is the clear highlight, stealing every scene she’s in and proving that there’s still room in the TARDIS for an old-school grease monkey with a heart of gold. While Harry and Naomi’s exits are underplayed, the story serves as a fitting pause between heartbreak and mystery.

And finally, we have the second half of With the Angels. It’s a solid ending, but not quite on the level with the opening.

8/10

The second half of With the Angels ends Past Forward on a high—both conceptually and emotionally. The chess motif is smartly integrated, the underwater Angel containment idea is inspired, and the yacht setting allows for a slow-burn thriller that erupts into catastrophe. Ray cements herself as a companion worthy of the TARDIS, matching the Doctor in courage and quick wit, while Sylvester McCoy balances the enigmatic trickster and weary conscience with quiet power.

If the story sometimes glides a little too gently before the action kicks off, it more than makes up for it with atmosphere and thematic resonance. This is Doctor Who at its most reflective—literally, in the mirror of its own timeline—and the sense that this all leads to something bigger makes the whole set feel more than the sum of its timey-wimey parts.

Finished the box set today!

Catastrophix wasn’t a favourite. I didn’t find the villains convincing and I thought the ending was a bit rushed. I also don’t like that the story concludes with a teenager dying – that felt unnecessarily cruel.

Part 2 of With the Angels was much better. The scene with the Doctor and Irving playing chess was excellent! And the plot wound itself up very nicely. I liked the tease at the end between the two Doctors as well!

A solid boxset I think. And the cover is still so gorgeous :star_struck:

That was a fantastic set, best Seventh Doctor release since The Grey Man of the Mountain (and I liked the other Harry/Naomi sets). I’m really glad that Seven finally has some sort of direction and a new companion. Plus we get the bonus lost story this year of Alixion.
