Listened to episode 1. It started slow, but I enjoyed the second half a lot. I enjoyed revisiting Mrs Favisham and though it was relatively obvious where it was going, it was not dissatisfying. As always, the interactions between Jenny and Vastra are the best bit

Episode two also a little slow, but an enjoyable enough listen. Hoping this is a case of the middle episode dip in a trio, because Iā€™m looking forward to the last one!

So for this last episode, keep listening after the final music because itā€™s not quite wrapped up. My reaction before that was WHATTTT?? Vastra is utterly ridiculous and I love her. I sure hope that this is kind of setting us up for more Paternoster stuff because I do love this gang and I think something really interesting could be done with Vastraā€™s dissociation and confusion. My favourite episode in the box for sure

Canā€™t wait to get onto this!

I listened to the first episode. It was fun and I also liked the interractions between Vastra and Jenny.
Iā€™ll wait till Iā€™ve finished listening to all three to rate them but Iā€™m going to try and pace myself to savour them a little (not sure Iā€™ll manage)

Oh I loved the first episode, just finished it. Didnā€™t really expect or want a sequel to that story but it worked super well and I canā€™t wait for the rest of the set!

Loved the second episode, whilst mostly separate from the arc it feels like its going to be the calm before the storm with the finale up next! It felt very current which I enjoyed.

Okay so Iā€™m very, VERY conflicted. I loved the final story, very subverting of expectations with Paul McGann.

With regards to the ending, I got literal chills when the TARDIS appeared. I really thought woah weā€™re gonna get the Paternoster gang travelling through space and time with 8 trying to find Vastra, then for the post credits scene just toā€¦ have them locate her and sheā€™s already back at Paternoster!? Itā€™s likeā€¦ they implied a really intriguing plot then just instantly went ā€œoh it happened off screenā€ and Iā€™m sad.

I really hope we get more.

Agree, I was proper freaking out that it left us on a cliffhanger, and while I donā€™t hate ā€˜and Vastra is magically backā€™ I do think more stories dealing with the ramifications of it all could be interestinv

Yeah the ramifications will be great, but the fact we couldā€™ve had the Paternoster gang (or 2/3ā€™s of them) travelling with 8 for a boxset or two trying to get Vastra!? That wouldā€™ve been amazing, and IMO such a wasted opportunity. When else will an opportunity come up again to take them off world?

I am also quite conflicted on the last episode and the ending.
I really liked episode 2 as a sort of rest before the big finale.

I have several issues with the last episode though.

The first one is that I thought Jenny and Vastra felt a bit out of character.
I liked the twist that Vastra wasnā€™t (at first) trying to solve everything on her own but preparing a grand romantic gesture. Vastra is both a disaster and very smooth with her wife so that checked out but I thought it was odd for her to go off and prepare wedding in the middle of all this crisis.
And for Jenny her reaction to having to live in a dirty lodging felt weird given that itā€™s the accepted canon that she was basically homeless after leaving her parents and before meeting Vastra. And she is usually quite observant, her not immediatly thinking that things keep disappearing is weird also felt off.

As for the ending, I donā€™t mind so much that we donā€™t see the actual rescuing of Vastra. What does bother me is that their was being destroyed and we have no idea how the Doctor fixed that.

On the positive side, I liked the use of Paul McGann, I liked Strax a lot and Iā€™m a sucker for any romantic moment between Jenny and Vastra Though it does make me laugh to imagine whatā€™s itā€™s like to act these in front of a microphone.

I really hope itā€™s not the last we ever get of the Paternoster Gang because Vastraā€™s writing at the end could be taken as a conclusion. I have no idea how popular they are and if itā€™s enough for Big Finish to produce more. I love them and Iā€™d be very sad if this was their final story.

Sorry for the long comment

This is the fear I have with so many of the niche BF ranges, theyā€™re a niche within a niche. Sure itā€™s not super niche like The Robots for example, but still I donā€™t see a lot of discussion surrounding these releases.

I feel like the next set, even just one boxset, couldā€™ve been Jenny and Strax travelling with 8 finding Vastra. When else will we get an opportunity like this to have them off-world?

Donā€™t feel you have to apologise, itā€™s great to see your thoughts! I do agree with you totally also - I liked that it felt both open ended and concluded enough that I wonā€™t be miserable if we never get more, but I really think something more could be done here with them and Iā€™d love love to have them back

I would have liked to see them develop their relationship with 8 more, see them in the TARDIS and offworld but I donā€™t know how it would feel to not have Vastra for an entire episode. Or maybe if we also had scenes with her in theā€¦wherever she was. But I expect that it they do continue, they want the next set to be a whole new story that isnā€™t tied too much to the previous series.

Totally. I was like oh my god its like Doom Coalition into Ravenous! The possibilities are so unique! More developing their relationship with 8! Then the post-credit scene justā€¦ time skips god knows how long and everythingā€™s resolved? I am a tad worried that the post-credit scene was a late addition?

I doubt that itā€™s a late addition. I do think they wanted this ā€œWhat ??ā€ reaction but intended to fully conclude the Tresspassers series. And in the interviews they do mention that the last episode is a reference to Sherlock Holmes ā€œThe Last Problemā€ that ends with Holmesā€™ apparent death.
