There isn’t a single episode of Doctor Who that I never want to rewatch - even K9 if I was in the right mood.
There’s always something new to discover or enjoy in an episode and I find we often come to episodes with a different mindset and appreciate them in a different way- sometimes positively sometimes not but Doctor Who is always an experience.
i mean, sure, i used to like girl in the fireplace, and then i rewatched it and discovered new things that sort of ruined it for me. discovery goes both ways, especially when you started watching as a young teen. personally i do find a certain level of misogyny to be a dealbreaker, and i do think girl in the fireplace engages in quite a bit of misogyny. there are other episodes i would rather watch.
I like the setting of this episode so so much! the clockwork robots who fixed the ship using the crew and completely misunderstood their instructions are a great concept. I love the contrast between funky scifi spaceship and the historical bits too.
This thing that puts me off this episode personally is the doctors relationship with madam de pompadour. It feels like rose and mickey get shoved aside for the whole episode, which is annoying because Mickey is new to all of this and i wouldve liked an episode focused more on him. The Doctor just sort of abandons them throughout the half episode. The fact that the doctor progresses from being madam de pompadours childhood imaginary friend to romance in barely any time at all feels weird too. In addition to the fact that Amy has practically the same backstory, making it a recurring concept in moffats stories. I wish we couldve had it without the romance because other than that, i think its a really strong episode. Especially compared to a lot of s2, though i am a love and monsters enjoyer soo maybe i cant talk haha
