God I hated all that Lumiat stuff.
Or so we thought!
Right now, there’s so much more to potentially do with the pantheon stuff, a number of characters to meet/revisit (or have we met some already and not known it…yet? ) that I sincerely hope they avoid crowding that landscape with the big 3 - let the story you’re already telling breathe properly unless there’s a seriously compelling reason to bring in one or more of them, please.
I would like to see the Daleks return again. The master and the Cybermen on the other Hand? Leave them for a few more Years, they don’t need to return as much (especially since they have been used quite heavily in both Capaldi and Whittakers Tenure).
While I wouldn’t be “Ughh not them again”, if those two appear again, I still think having larger Gaps for both of them is a good Move. The Daleks on the other Hand? Considering if Season 3 is a Return of Ncuti (which we don’t know), I think they should appear (besides if RTD is still on the helm, I would be happy to see another Dalek penned Story, one of his biggest Writing Skills of his first Era in my Eyes).
Anyway, enough of those pathetic Nobody’s, let’s talk about the REAL big three: Chumblies, Quarks and Krotons! They should return.
(I agree give us an early Master whenever they return or bring back a past Actor, Beevers is still voicing the Master with a masterful Voice )
give me CHUMBLIES!!! !!! !!!
I mean… 8 namedrops most of his companions in Night of the Doctor, so they’re not NOT canon… but this is also Dr Who, where canon doesn’t matter.
You joke, but after reading (early EDA spoiler) Alien Bodies, I would quite like to see the Krotons again!
Otherwise, fully agree on everything you said
Was only half joking with those, Alien Bodies uses them so well, but I am not sure if the TV Show can reach those Highs, still would be lovely to see them try!
I wouldn’t be disappointed if the ‘big three’ don’t appear for 15 on TV – in fact I think it would be quite nice for there to be another Doctor whose more defining moments, like for example meeting the Daleks for the first time, are in the EU.
However if they do appear it wouldn’t be unwelcome, particularly because it might make this new era feel a bit more Doctor-Who-ish for me, as so far I’ve been struggling with the lack of a repeated outfit for 15, which all other Doctors have had, the disneyfication of it all, and the episodes being released at the wrong time. They would have to be used well though, and to be honest I think that is unlikely. Most Cybermen stories reduce them to a generic robot army instead of playing with the more compelling horror of them being former humans; Dalek stories in New Who annoy me because I really don’t like the Time War and the idea that they would be the Time Lords’ greatest enemy; and the Master I think is also used strangely in New Who, because there is no reason for them to show up so regularly but for the Doctor to never encounter any other Time Lords who survived the destruction of Gallifrey.
Tangentially related to this topic - how would you all feel if some/all of the “big three” made cameos, as opposed to getting full blown returns? It feels a bit ‘have your cake and eat it’ - 15 doesn’t have to be granted a Dalek episode, but one could be in there somewhere, ala how they were used in Series 6?
Maybe some flashback/montage where they have about a second of screentime each, claiming that 15 already met them, offscreen
I wouldn’t mind the Idea if that Cameo Role has something to justify it, like @NyssaUnbound’s fun Idea!
DALEK: IT IS NOT APPROPRIATE TO CALL ME “BABES”
Oh yes I can see Fifteen turning that iconic quote back at the Bruce Master
I would like that very much
I wouldn’t mind if they don’t appear for 15. I’ve been enjoying having original monsters/villains so it’s not like I miss them. The Master would be fine in season 3, assuming that the whole pantheon storyline gets resolved this season, but I hope it won’t be someone similar to the Spy Master. We don’t need crazy over the top incarnations all the time.
Honestly, if we’re getting them back, I would rather have them in extended appearances - I think cameos wouldn’t add a lot of value, while also “resetting the clock” so when we do next get a full appearance, it doesn’t feel as momentous, if that makes sense? With the extended gap, I would really like any return for the big three to feel like an event (although not necessarily a finale/season arc one - I would actually quite like to see these three back in standalone stories, personally). I would also like some redesigns for the Daleks and Cybermen, and I don’t think you could debut those in a cameo.
Honestly let a Dalek be the cause of the regeneration
Please, not another death by laser! We’ve had it for the last two Doctors, if I were him I’d start going around in reflective clothing /hj
Death by sink plunger on the other hand…
Death by bumper cars where the Daleks just slams into him REAL hard
Honestly, I actually wouldn’t mind this - at least it would be original
For real though this is a valid point! I do want this to happen at some point - I think the Daleks have earned (at least a short term) victory over the Doctor (and it could tie into my biggest want of a mid episode regular regeneration) but maybe now isn’t the time for the reason you said
