Since there’s an active lack of things to talk about with this match, Im instead going to say I have no issues whatsoever with Benni, and its bizzar to me that that’s what always comes up when talking about this episode.
Also you dont hate Benni, you hate the woman who keeps asking for him. It’s padantic and I know its becouse nobody knows her name but really bugs me.

Orphan 55 might not be the worst episode of Who, or even the worst 13th Doctor story, but it’s possibly the most poorly edited episode to come out of the series.

So I got to this tournament late, how exactly was it determined which episodes skipped to the second round?
Step 1, stories seeded by traditional seeding according to my own rankings.
Then there was a vote, in which people wanted more randomness. So…
Step 2, each 16th of the bracket had the stories’ positions switched around by RNG.
The top 16 can’t face each other until the round of 16 at the earliest, but there are a lot of unusual first matches as a result.
So that’s how a story like Orphan 55 got a bye, to answer your unasked question.

Chibnal may have just created my first non-vote, as these two are incredably evenly matched. I dont like either in equal measure, both got a memory raited 3/5, and the ways I dont like them feel really simmilar. And their successes outside the plots such as production quality are also on the same level.
There are very few non-Chibnal episodes I would vote for either of these over, and theyld probably beat most of the rest of his era. But its like comparing aples and oranges[1] except you havnt had either in years and didnt like them.
