Debating starting this or finishing the latest River set…

I hope this pops up in a sale at some point as I’m keen to hear more Voord. Just can’t really justify the expense at the moment.

Oh…it’s only £12.99 on download…

Hmmmm

Nah, it’ll have to wait.

Oh damn okay this makes me more interested :eyes: (once I’ve done the other sets in the range…)

Yeah seeing as its just two stories! I kinda like the format ngl. As much as I love a 4 part boxset, I’ve actually found myself kind of preferring the 3 part boxsets we’ve had recently.

I will be listening to this later today! And even though I am sure I will enjoy it I am also going to be grumpy about no Veklin at the same time >:(

I’ll have to catch up on the new River set and then I’ll get to this!

Listened to ep 1. Gave it an 8 though I think really I want to give it 7.75. Going to have to digest this one for a bit. I liked what it did with the idea of an isolated Kaled colony and I liked that they didn’t all just go dalek and havr to grt destroyed but it had all the hallmarks of a Llewellyn script that I hate - moral posturing in long speeches, a muddied conclusion, wordy for no reason. I liked it overall but I do think it is a weaker entry in the series.

Got to do some Tasks, ep2 will be the reward!

Ep 2 done and again I’m going to have to mull over this. I found this story a little less engaging than ep 1, though it was very nice to meet Rasmus’ daughter! [1] and it was fun to see the Voord. I liked that it was quite a Dalek lite episode despite ostensibly being ‘about’ them and their plan, and I found the story to get wrapped up very satisfactorily. The Doctor and Karita going off together at the end was cute too, I hope that’s a thread that goes somewhere in the future

However I didn’t love this boxset overall as much as the previous two. I think partly that is absolutely my fault because almost the whole time I was sitting there thinking ‘where is Veklin, Veklin could be in this story, why is Veklin not there’ which spoiled it a little for myself. I also thought the stories were a little over long, perhaps, or not as tightly paced as they could be maybe. Either way, I did have fun - reccommend!

  1. the crackship possibilites in my mind are now endless… gallifrey has done a bad thing to my mind… ↩︎

Just finished the first episode, REALLY enjoyed that. I do wish they went more into the concept but it worked well for me. Loving the dynamic between Susan and War.

What a great start to the set! It has this slow-burn buildup of tension before a really good twist and the performances are great.

Robot nuns, hell yeah!

A strong opening to the third Susan’s War box set, The Last of the Kaleds delivers an engaging mix of diplomacy, deception, and tragedy. Susan takes centre stage, proving herself a formidable force in her own right, while the War Doctor’s presence adds weight to the proceedings. The Duke’s dual identity is a fantastic twist, and the political drama keeps the stakes high.

The sidelining of the Countess is a minor drawback, but the story compensates with a gripping finale and a satisfying exploration of its themes. With excellent performances across the board and a compelling resolution, this is a solid addition to the Time War saga.

The Voord Alliance wasn’t quite as good as the first story, but I enjoyed it at least. Really liked the setting, but I’m growing tired of all these new Dalek superweapons.

The Voord Alliance is an intriguing entry in Susan’s War, offering strong character moments, immersive world-building, and an engaging central mystery. The relationship dynamics between Susan, the War Doctor, and Carita add emotional depth, and the setting of Sarros Minor is well-realised through excellent sound design. However, the story’s reliance on yet another Dalek superweapon feels a little excessive, and the Voord—while serviceable—don’t quite justify their presence in the story.

The pacing falters towards the end, and the climax lacks the impact it needs to elevate the story into something truly memorable. That said, it still provides an enjoyable experience, particularly for those invested in Susan’s arc and the complex moral dilemmas of the Time War. It may not be the strongest entry in the range, but it delivers enough intrigue and character depth to make it a worthwhile listen.

Just finished the Voord Alliance. Enjoyed it, surprised they’ve ended this mini-arc with War so early though.
