I think this episode is going to be a prequel, not a sequel.
Yes, a sequel from the Doctor’s POV, but a prequel for the planet.
As I said, my theory is that they went mining and found these Xtonic crystals which produce the Midnight entities. The environment is very rustic, as opposed to sleek. Maybe a stylistic choice, but possibly also an environmental indicator of it being set earlier. If it’s a well, maybe these crystals could only access sunlight after this team go on their mission, thus producing entities. Maybe Lux, with the sunlight theme, was also saying how the Xtonic rays work. Once infected by sunlight, it becomes sentient, grows, and spreads.
Hopefully proven wrong though. Kinda excited obvs.

Read the article, even screen rant off all tabloids believe the Rani is Mrs flood.. though they think her plan is just to seize the power of the gods causing a war and manipulating the doctor to do so.
Remember folks it’s screen rant so their theories are probably way off

Also I noticed that villengard definitely have a lot in common to connect to the Rani, notice how their experiments always disregard human life like, creating a star but it might explode and they don’t care if humanity is at risk of being blown up.
