Even in the worstest of the Benny audios this is always true, she always makes it better. I wonder what you’ll think of Summer of Love
Can someone give me the lowdown on Jason please?
I don’t want to read the Wiki for fear of future spoilers, but I have questions about the stuff I missed by skipping from Love and War straight to Oh No It Isn’t.
- They were married once, how did they meet? What does Jason do?
- Why did they split up? I got some idea that he did something horrible?
- Although not so horrible that they don’t keep having sex whenever they get together
I have no idea how we get from here to Benny having a half-dog person child but I’m excited to find out!
Basically it all goes to pot in the novel Eternity Weeps (which is a hugely depressing read for a number of reasons - Jim Mortimore sure gets his Doctor Who kicks in some odd ways). Jason in unhappy in the marriage and Bernice then manipulates him in quite a horrid way (for ‘good’ reasons). But as time goes on they both want to repair their relationship to varying degrees of success.
Whatever you might be imagining, I guarantee you are wrong… You have to read The Squire’s Crystal for the full context on that one
Yeah, this is where the books fill in some big gaps. The Squire’s Crystal · Bernice Summerfield · TARDIS Guide tells how Benny gets pregnant, The Infernal Nexus · Bernice Summerfield · TARDIS Guide brings Jason back into the picture (not quite sure what led to him being where he is in this novel), and The Glass Prison · Bernice Summerfield · TARDIS Guide tells of the events around Peter’s birth. All three were quite enjoyable when read by Lisa Bowerman.
I started reading Bernice Summerfield and The Dead Men Diaries!
I know I’m skipping all over the place here but listening isn’t practical right now and the short story format is perfect for me at the moment.
Loved the first two stories! I can tell I’m going to enjoy this
Hooray! The Dead Men Diaries is really fun.
I’ve read a few more short stories in The Dead Men Diaries, love short stories as they are bitesize and easy to read.
So far only one which I’d call a dud, but that was mostly because after reading it I was confused what actually happened (Heart of Glass - if anyone could explain to me I’d be grateful lol).
I listened to Walking to Babylon - it was quite a good audio, I enjoyed hearing more of Benny (I actually do love her now!), and it was interesting about the Time Rings (I haven’t read the story where they got them, might have to go back and do that one day).
Elisabeth Sladen was also in this!
The actual story/plot was a bit ‘meh’, but in the end I enjoyed it because of the performances.
Onwards, to the next of the Time Ring Trilogy!
The Time Rings are basically Benny and Jason’s wedding rings, given to them by the Doctor as a present.
The Time Ring trilogy is my favourite group of audios from the first series. True, it’s half the season, but still good stuff.
I listened to Birthright today which is basically alright but a bit by-the-numbers.
I’m interested to see how the trilogy ends with the next audio (I’m skipping Making Myths which is placed next due to its release date but don’t think it’s meant to be listened to next…)
Making Myths was part of a special release so, no, it isn’t between these two. It can be listened to whenever really.
The Making Myths release is standalone.
Wow it’s a long time since I updated this!
I’ve been distracted lately by Torchwood audios
But I finished The Dead Men Diaries - a really good book, love some of the short stories, especially the one by Steven Moffat (surprise, surprise), The Least Important Man.
I was about to move onto The Squire’s Crystal next (I’m only reading the ones marked important, plus the Glass Prison), but then I realised there are a few other books I’m halfway through so I’ll finish them first, then come back to this
I’m halfway through The Squire’s Crystal which is such a fun novel with one of those familiar tropes - a body swap!
I’m loving it so far, it’s my first full Benny novel (I skipped some, will go back to them eventually) and I’m so glad I started this journey
Yayyy Benny supremacy
I finished The Squire’s Crystal!
Wow, I read that fast - a real page turner and I get a lot of reading in when just laying about by the beach
I really enjoyed it!
Now I believe I know how Benny gets pregnant, if it’s what I think it is then that’s a pretty unfortunate turn of events.
I was thinking of skipping Infernal Nexus because according to the guide I’m following it’s not essential, although it does bring Jason back. But I want to get caught up as soon as possible so I think I’ll go straight to the Glass Prison.
What do you think?
- Skip Infernal Nexus
- Don’t skip it
I found Infernal Nexus a bit ehhh and I didn’t listen to it before continuing and it didn’t impact my understanding at all.
And yes, you’re totally right about Benny’s pregnancy. It’s kind of crazy…
I found it kinda fun. That said, it’s been long enough that I don’t remember details.
