The centre of the party
And I think it’s quite middle of the road, to be honest. Not as good as On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, but not as bad as On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
But what about On Her Majesty’s Secret Service? That one is quite underrated and such a good Movie really!
Shame that you have forgotten this one… tzz tzz
Well of course Lazenby also pretty much played Bond two other times …
But I am enjoying this joke.
? Tell all
I think there’s a 25th anniversary documentary of the films, obviously around the time The Living Daylights came out, where Roger hosts in character as Bond.
Going the other way, Roger Moore also played Bond before he did in the official film series…
There’s so many movies I want to watch, but something I’m interested in are the Bond films.
Where’s a good place to start?
I would start with the Daniel Craig era. I’m not much of a fan of it myself but it works as a complete era, whereas there is very little in the way of continuity with the other films. Also some of the attitudes & representation of women etc is ‘of its time’ shall we say in the older movies.
Besides Craig you can really start with any of those Movies (maybe not the Pardoy Casino Royale). If you want some Recommendations, those seem to be good Places to start for my Money:
Dr. No
From Russia with Love (good Starting Point for Connery)
On Her Majestys Secret Service (although I do recommend watching it later, as it does work much better when you know the ““typical”” Mold of a Bond Flick).
Goldeneye
And of course the Craig Era starting with Casino Royale, if you start with it, I’d recommend committing yourself to all of his 5 Films in Order, which is probably your safest bet for various Reasons.
If you want something more “classic” Bond, Brosnan’s Era is probably your second next bet really.
Honestly, you could probably just go in order. Pretty much all of them are at the very least entertaining. And you can see the sort of evolution of the franchise.
Well, that depends. The first one came out in 1962, and a bit like with Doctor Who, there are different eras attached to the different Doctors, and each era is a bit different.
The Connery Bonds are a product of their time. Slower, with a womanizing Bond, but a certain charm and realism.
The Moore era is known for much more outlandish and comedic movies that vary in quality. Dalton’s two are more serious. Brosnan, my favourite, is a good mix of 90s spy film fun and post-Cold War realism. And Craig is the ultra-realistic action Bond who turns more into a traditionally fun super agent as his era progresses.
So I’d recommend either starting with Goldfinger (the third Connery) because it’s the first one that follows the typical Bond film formula and is a great movie, or Live and Let Die, which is Moore’s first. You could also start with GoldenEye, Brosnan’s first and one of the best in the franchise, or Casino Royale, which is the reboot with Craig and a really good movie.
Just remember that every Bond movie is essentially a standalone, and you don’t need to watch them in order [1]. Except for the Craig films, as they have a larger story arc that pays off in the later films.
aside from a couple of exceptions like On Her Majesty’s Secret Service leading to Diamonds Are Forever ↩︎
Also. Apparently Broccoli and Wilson are stepping back and Amazon/MGM will have creative control going forward.
Yeah, that’s very unexpected news.
(In relation to Broccoli, I had a feeling Wilson would be retiring fairly soon)
I feel like this is a “well it was a good run” moment.
I think I would start with “GoldenEye” with Pierce Brosnan!
My word have I watched that movie a lot
And then just go forwards from there
Well then we can take what happened at the end of NTTD as the end of an era?
Get ready for adaptations of Charlie Higson’s Young Bond books. A Q origin movie. A tv show about young Double O recruits. A Moneypenny spin off etc etc
