Revisiting Old Favorites

i just finished rereading (and annotating!) into the nowhere by jenny t. colgan (part of the time trips series, but i just got the triple knife and other stories this year) for the fourth time! it has been one of my favorite doctor who extended universe stories since i discovered it in 2014/2015.

in it, eleven and clara end up on a planet that isn’t categorized anywhere. they run into a series of messed up landscape trials, and the story is absolutely lousy with biblical references. as a recovering catholic, it hits me hard every time. in the introduction by jenny t. colgan, she mentions that the story came about from her personal “lost” theory that the last two survivors were going to end up being adam and eve. which she then transcribed onto eleven and clara, instead. which absolutely made me lose it to learn. also, there is a scene where eleven tells a straight-from-the-garden-of-eden snake that he will always bleed for clara. if these two weren’t at least a little in love with each other, i’ll eat my hat. overall, my favorite, darker, story to recommend to everyone i know!

what are some of your go-to rereads? i’m also partial to the first trio of twelve and clara stories (the ones before the glamour chronicles. which i originally read out of order and still think of as such. my bad.)!

I have struggled with some of Jenny’s Doctor Who stories, but this definitely seems like something I should check out!

Well I don’t often re-read books (but there are some I’d like to read again at some point). There are loads of comics I’ve read multiple times though.

it definitely helped that when i first discovered it, i was in the throes of s7b being my comfort series, lol. and i’m in the same boat with a good chunk of the comics - i reread them every year!

this sounds really good, and honestly, as someone who isn’t religious but grew up in a religious community, it does leave a stain. plus i do love eleven and clara!

i love to reread some of the telos novellas, because they’re exactly the right length for a quick read, but so far the ones i’ve read have been brilliantly written :)) they are sometimes a little dark as well

I’ve read The Year of Intelligent Tigers twice and I expect I’ll read it again several times. Not just a fantastic Who book but a fantastic book full stop!

So far? I must admit I am not one to re-read Books too often (way too many untouched that I still like to read!) that said if I had to choose I would say Books I could see myself go back to it are some of my favorite EDAs (Blum/Orman Books, Crooked World and so on), Scratchman and the wonderful Imaginary Friends.

I’m not one for revisiting books, except for Touched by an Angel, which I read at least once a year.

I wish I had the time to revisit old books but the shelves of unread novels in the spare room keep telling me not to ignore them…

Deep Time, a 12 and Clara story. It’s one of my favorite DW books.

I’ve never reread a DW book to my knowledge, but every few years I do read my favourite book Contact by Carl Sagan. I know it cover to cover but it’s a great comfort to me
