Reviewing a set as a whole?

I was thinking about reviewing alien babies as a whole because I didn’t see the value in doing each individual comic for me personally, and then I’d just put that review on the first comic in the set, but I wondered if that would be frowned upon.

Then I started to wonder if reviewing sets could be an option? I’ve never seen anyone bring it up, but it seems like a good idea. You can already see the average rating of a set, why not be able to see some opinions on its overall merit before you might decide to get into it?

An issue could be that some sets gain new stories after someone might have already reviewed the set, that could change their whole opinion on the set. Then again you can change your opinion on an individual story with new information too.

Sorry if there’s typos, it’s late and I’ve had a long night at a party for my mum

I agree with the idea, I feel like I could very easily write a lot about a ton of sets as a story/format better than just individually.

For example with Dalek Universe I have strong opnions on the last set and how it undermines the rest of the series, but I couldn’t really write about that in just a review for the last story.

I’m pretty sure this is one of the things on Shauny’s radar! Not sure if there’s any plan to implement it anytime soon, but the idea has definitely been floated and met with positive response before

I’ve had this thought too, especially when it comes to plot threads or recurring themes that run through a whole series/set. They can often make the whole thing more or conversely less than the sum of it’s parts depending on how well done they are and it can be heard to reflect that in a review of any one story.

Glad to hear it’s been suggested before it would be fantastic to see if it can come to fruition!!

I’d love to be able to rate a whole set – I’d probably use it when it comes to the Short Trips books, for instance.

I don’t like the idea of rating a whole set and have those ratings contributing to averages and stats, though. Then it feels like I’m rating something twice!

Yes this has come up before and I am planning it! Along with giving ratings to a box set which aren’t just the sum of your ratings of each story.

I’m not sure when it will be available but it’s on the list

Yeah this would be great. Unfortunately the season finale ends up being a combined review of that episode and the season as a whole because it contains the season arc plot.

It would be great to review these things separately as my reviews and ratings would be quite different.

Same with ratings, my rating for a season isn’t necessarily going to be an average of what I thought of each episode. The whole could be greater than the parts, or the opposite could be true.
