Please remember to be kind!

If I ever fall on the wrong side of the kindness line, please will you point this out to me, as kindly as possible, because I’m quite fragile, but I never want to upset anyone, especially in such a nice place. I’m always grateful to be put right if I make a mistake, as I’m keen to make amends as quickly as possible.

I also want to say that we have had lots of these “safe space” threads pop up, and that’s lovely because I understand the frustration of just trying to enjoy an era without all the negativity (for example, see every single one of Ncuti’s episode discussion topics…)

However, I feel that the policing of these can be a bit over the top. I’ve seen people be attacked for posting a negative opinion in there. I’ve also been attacked for doing that myself, it was a genuine mistake because I didn’t note which thread I was in, I was just replying to a notification I had.

So please also treat people who may appear to be being hostile with some benefit of the doubt and be respectful still.

I hate how some eras (like the Thirteenth Doctor) have become so difficult to discuss because there are people who uncritically love it 100% and see that any negativity must be a personal attack. Equally there are people who just absolutely dismiss it as the worst thing ever and have no nuance there.

We should all be allowed to post opinions in the general discussion topics, positive and negative, as long as they are constructive and respectful.

Oh I am so so sorry because I know this is me, I’m genuinely sorry to everyone.

I’ll try my best to be more accepting

While as far as I’m aware I’ve not crossed any lines, I know how hard it can be for tone to come across over messages and how easily jokes can go too far. So please please please let me know if I ever do cross a line or do anything in the wrong! I always intend things in good spirits and jest, but I’m very open to acknowledging any mistakes I make and am willing to hold myself accountable

I believe it’s the effort every one of us take to be kind that makes TG such a nice place to hang out. Just use what we learned from Doctor Who and talk, we’ll be fine

I loved here so much because being respectful and kind is a priority here , It’s something I wasn’t used to see considering other social media platforms had this problem with respect. People actually could go way too far there like sending death threats or personal insults. How easy to forget that social media is actually full of real people with real emotions appearently. I’m happy to be here with such sweet people <3

I learned what “tongue-in-cheek” meant randomly when I was watching an analysis video , I was confused at first😆

I’m still not getting it intuitively. I only memorised the meaning but it doesn’t make much sense?

I would also like to say that I always try to remain respectful towards everyone, regardless of their opinions or the topic currently being discussed. I can joke around and sometimes throw certain aspects of the franchise under the bus, but those are exaggerated moments made for comical effect and NEVER targeted against anyone personally. If I actually want to be critical of something, I never joke about it and always try to provide constructive criticism that isn’t simply bashing on something for the sake of it. I’m also genuinely happy that there are fans of pretty much every era and corner of the Whoniverse here, and the discussions here have truly made me see many areas of the Whoniverse in a new light, as well as appreciate many things I have previously overlooked.

But I do hope that if someone feels personally affected by something I write here, they reach out to me ASAP so we can sort things out before they spiral out of control

This made me enjoy the show so much more! Back when I get my Who discussions on Weibo most people don’t watch Classic Who, let alone EU other than the NSAs! I got the impression that 6’s run was not good and 4 was polular, and all the other classic Doctors were just a big blurr…

And then I met someone trashing 13’s run in one of those WeChat groups during the 60th anniversary. It turns out they never watched even one of her episodes? That’s when I got fed up and lost heart for finding a community of Chinese Who fans. I’m sure there are nice groups but… I live in TG now and I’m not moving out any time soon

It’s strangely common actually…Whenever I see a comment hating on 13 (on youtube or instagram) they tell you themselves that they didn’t even watch her era yet hate her? How can you even form an opinion about something you never even watched? :sob:

I’ve never enjoyed an online space this much, I think ever really. Especially for Doctor Who, as I’ve had some pretty awful interactions during my time on Doctor Who stan twitter. As someone who is autistic I do misinterpret messages and tone, it can be really hard sometimes. I really love hanging out here every day and I’ve made quite a few friendships from here its great :hugs:

I know I’m the most responsible for this, and I think while of course we can all post our opinions, when its a specific appreciation thread, comments against the purpose of the thread are just a bit unwarranted at least in my opinion. I do appreciate other peoples POV’s of course, but it can feel a tad overwhelming to constantly be replied to by the same people. Of course, I have misinterpreted this in the wrong way on numerous occasions, which is something I just need to work on but my autism brain is frustrating :sob:

I love whenever they’re like “Doctor Who ended with Peter Capaldi!” as if 12’s era wasn’t extremely woke… :sob:

I mean one can decide they’re not interested in something without experiencing it. That’s what reviews are for. You can decide if you’re gonna to spend time and energy on something. But that’s different from hating something, let alone spread that hatred.

Yeah exactly! For example I don’t have any opinions about other DW media yet because I haven’t read them or listened to them , but they decided that she ruined DW without even watching…which is weird :sob:
