This is where I’m at. The memory is super hazy for me when I got bit and yeah I love dogs now but the fear comes back if they bark a lot/their mouth goes near me and I’m unfamiliar with them/they’re a large or strange dog.
Heights. My family likes to go to National Parks and I hate going on a cliff. That’s what triggers it the most. I can manage it sometimes and I feel like I’ve improved a bit.
I used to be absolutely terrified of snakes. Like I couldn’t even see pictures of them without getting scared. I don’t even know why, there pretty much aren’t any native snakes here in Germany, so it wasn’t a problem either. I did manage to train that one out of me for the most part by learning about them and watching videos of pet snakes. I’m still a little scared but not paralyzed anymore.
What is really annoying though is that within the last year or two, I’ve developed a terrible fear of heights. Or I suppose it’s not necessarily the height itself, it’s me or other people falling. I absolutely can’t be near ledges or railings anymore. And it’s activated by other people leaning against railings or similar stuff as well. I have no idea where this fear comes from and I honestly need to really get over it because I have some lectures this semester in rooms where I have to walk next to places pretty much designed to activate that fear. And I’d really like to be able to go to those classes without feeling like I’m being electrocuted.
No idea if there’s a name for it but I have a phobia of waxworks. As a child they terrified me and even as an adult I’m extremely wary. I’ve been to Tussauds twice and hated it.
Those little eight legged monstrosities are keeping me from watching Paddington 3, a friend went to see the movie and immediately after sent me a text telling me that there’s a few intense scenes involving s very big spider. I loved the first two movies but hell nah, I’m not taking my chances.
I’m still having nightmares with Arachnids in the UK and seriously considering if I’m going to watch this seasons episode 5 as it involves an african spider god.
Yeah I didn’t know this beforehand and had to close my eyes during those scenes
Yeah, and the thing is that at the time there wasn’t any official or legal way to watch the show from Spain and I didn’t had access to a VPN to use the iPlayer as I do now, so I had to use other websites to watch the newer episodes but for some reason the website I used usually cutted the “Next Time” and the episode title bit, like you had the full intro but the screen went black just before the episode title was shown on screen, so I had not clue what was about to hit me.
Idk whether I have anything that extreme I would class as a phobia.
Like with heights, I get nervous, but I don’t irrationally fear it. And I’m the only person in my house who doesn’t have arachnophobia, so I’m designated spider-catcher (I don’t kill them though ).
However, I’m terrified of zombies. I have nightmares of zombies frequently. I watch a lot of zombie media as exposure therapy. Super excited for 28 Years, but I know I’ll be a paranoid wreck afterwards. Don’t know if I’d class it as a phobia, but it is prevalent. And to be specific, I mean the fast, smart, “Infected” type of zombies, not the decaying, slow ones like in the old movies.
My nightmares change zombie types too, sometimes they’ll be sight-based, sometimes only sound-based. The worst ones are the intelligent ones though, that use eye contact to determine whether to murder you.
In my dreams too, if there’s no food source for them, they usually just…stop and stand there, swaying in place, looking around. Remember one dream where I saw a girl from behind, whilst on a countryside farm house, she was groaning slightly and I had to very carefully maneuver around her…until her super-hearing caught me and she sprinted for me… and I was eventually rescued by a group of survivors who took me to their base (a dystopian authoritarian hellscape, but at least there were no zombies ).
i’m very emetophobic, i don’t get triggered by seeing the words but i can’t be around drunk people because i’m afraid they’ll throw up. i know some emetophobic people are only triggered by humans, but for me it’s dogs and any other animal as well, it really terrifies me. i was having panic attacks about it before i even knew what panic attacks were, it’s horrible and i don’t even know what part of it is so bad to me, but it’s just awful
anyway sorry for the bit of a vent, but it felt like the right place to put it <3
also when i was a kid i was terrified of mummies, like the ancient egyptian ones. i had a very logical system thought out against them and everything XD
so. you know the way that you’re safe from the monsters if you’re under the blanket? well, kid me realised that she couldn’t breathe under the blanket, and therefore would have to take it off at some point during the night and thus once again become vulnerable to the mummies. so the solution? sleep with a net curtain over my face XD i judged it still opaque and blanket-like that it would protect me, but i could also breathe through it (i also have these 2 big tiger plushies, they sat at either side of my head - both to guard me and to hold the curtain down so it definitely wouldn’t come off during the night)
I did have very intense arachnophobia when I was younger but spiders are so common that I basically gave myself involuntary aversion therapy, I don’t love them and would want to avoid touching them, but as a child I would literally hallucinate the feeling of them crawling over me, and would be super anxious and unable to eat just at the thought of them so evolving into the sort of person who either ignores them or will calmly ask someone to remove it is honestly a win.
The main spiders I have a problem with are the black widows that like to hang out by the water heater outside…
You’re right to have a problem with them. They’re venomous buggers!
In my case I have a problem with most spiders, I can tolerate unrealistic depictions of them like cartoony spiders, the spiders from Minecraft seem fine but the sound they made make me very nervous, I’ve seen clips of the movie with the spiders and the way they move just creeped me out very very much.
I despise them so much that I pretty much gaslighted myself into believing that at the end of Arachnids in the UK, Robertson not only shoot dead the biggest one, but also ordered a strike on the hotel to blow them all up. I’m sorry Doc, I know they are living creatures but if a spider the size of a ■■■■■■■ rhinoceros comes out of my bathtub I’m nuking the place.
I’m fine with spiders unless they take me by surprise. Have all you arachnophobes seen the arachnophobia mode on Lethal Company? It’s a thing of beauty
Yeah. They’ve sprayed out there, but I’m not 100% whether they have stayed gone. Fortunately, I don’t usually have to go over to where it is, unless something happens with the power, since that’s also where the circuit breaker is…
It’s ok, the Doctor says it’s unethical to shoot them but it’s ok to leave them trapped in a room til they starve to death
Spider haters spider lovers
Hating arachnids in the uk
I mean, if the arachnids over by my water heater decide to go over to the uk, I’m fine with that…
I had the weirdest fear when I was a kid;
So , when I was in elemantary school, teachers used to teach us alphabet differently. (I think every school had this back then in Turkey I’m not sure) For example they taught us pronouncing the letters “m” or “n” like “mmmm” “nnnn” Little me found that sound very unsettling for some reason. One day mom was helping me with learning alphabet again , we were listening pronounciations on our computer. Everything was going nice until mom decided to press on the letter “m”
I was like “mom don’t!” well it was too late. The sound of “mmm” already started to make me cry. I have no idea why I had such intense fear of that sound , I was unsettled by lots of sounds as kid. It’s so funny now because it was kind of chaotic. My brother ran to the living room , then dad came home , timing is hilarious. Then mom had to explain I was crying like that because of a letter
