Had a feeling that this would be the theme for this year. Also somehow forgot the guidelines from past years, which throw out at least half of the ideas I’ve drawn up so far.
Still, this is supposed to be something of a challenge, and I’m quite determined to at least enter this year, if not win. I still have one idea that could work quite well with her, although I’m not as familiar with her voice as the other Doctors. Good thing I’ve got a little over a month to polish it, lol
I’m excited for this but a little nervous even if I don’t submit; I’ve never written much DW stuff before past a couple one off scene extracts and those were all years ago and not really shared with folks
It seems I won’t be participating again this year. I already knew that was likely, as I have other writing projects going on right now, but Thirteen really sealed the deal for me. I’m not familiar enough with her to write about her.
I am, frankly, thrilled at the chance to write a 13 story - there’s so much ground to explore. I’m currently thinking about somewhere between Flux and the specials. And that fob-watch has been nagging on me ever since she dropped it down.
Tangentially, I think an alternate universe where the show was cancelled in Chibnall’s era might be at least worthy if only for the chance that we got the same level of stories for 13 in novel form that 7 and 8 got during the hiatus. I think she’s a really literary Doctor that might in fact be better suited for EU work.
A bit of a tangent from this, but would anyone be up for a writers’ group? Maybe meeting online once a month to do a little writing and share it? A writing prompt, 15 minutes writing and then sharing? It might be a fun way for us to write some fan fiction and maybe prepare for next year’s competition.
That sounds really cool! I used to write a lot of collaborative fanfic with a few friends years ago and found I worked far better as a writer when bouncing off of others!
Cool. I think maybe a group of four would work best as that would give us time to write, then share, discuss and go off and work on what we’ve written between meetings.
I find it helps to share and to have a meeting point so that I actually get some writing done!
Edit:
I should probably start a new thread for this.
I can’t believe I said I probably wasn’t going to write for this, then came up with an idea and started writing yesterday afternoon, and then my really nifty idea that centred around Thirteen listening to other people telling stories was hijacked by the latest episode!
