Opinion: I'm not a fan of 15th Doctor

Hello, this is not a hate post on the 15th doctor or anything like that, this is just my opinion. So first off when they announced Ncuti I was kind of skeptical if I’d like him cause he felt like he was gonna feel a more lighthearted incarnation and I was mostly right. My favorite incarnation is Peter Capaldi as the 12th Doctor and I like him due to his darkness there. But with 15 theres barely any dark moments, sure we see some in Boom and some in Joy to the World and that’s pretty much it.Hopefully Season 2 / Series 15 he gets more of dark moments and he drops his light side for a bit but we will see. So far I’m just saying that he isn’t for me and this isn’t Ncuti fault its just how RTD wrote him, anyways thats what I think about the 15th doctor, again this is not a hate post or anything, love Ncuti as a actor a lot.Put your takes down below, thanks.

Surely by that logic, you wouldn’t like any other less-dark incarnation due to them not having many scenes yet?

I’d be more surprised if you announced that you did like something…

Yeah im not the biggest fan of 2nd doctor too but i think he has some cool moments, and 11 while hes mostly comedic he has lots of dark moments of his, anyways i think its probably too early to judge with 15,but im just going off the 10 episodes he had so far.

It’s too early to judge and yet you’re still judging? Huh?

They did dark and brooding Doctors to varying extents for the first four incarnations in the modern series. 13 they started her out different, until they destroyed Gallifrey again and she learns of the Timeless Child, where she turns back to that more again. 15 being overall more optimistic and cheerful is actually a nice change of pace. Every Doctor doesn’t have to be dark.

Yeah I agree,I just wish there was some sort of balance, where u have light and dark moments, but maybe im wrong idk or still living in the past.

I’d say 15 has had a mix of light and dark, the stories you mentioned where he has dark moments being those moments.

Tbh I feel like this could be in the controversial opinions thread?

What makes it harder is that a fifth of his time so far has been Doctor-lite episodes, so for me the bigger issue is I don’t feel like I quite know who his Doctor really is yet. I like him enough, he’s a fun dude, but I’ll need a bit more before I’d be able to consider him amongst my favorites. Season 2 will hopefully provide.

Idk is this controversial?

As many criticisms as I’ve seen of R2D this isn’t one I’ve seen much of

Fair enough.

There’s lots of opinions in the Controversial Opinions topic that aren’t as controversial as the poster originally thought. So…

And this was the point, of course, as established in The Giggle. 14 did the therapy so that 15 could go on without a burden to carry on his shoulders!

I don’t think those are the only dark moments… it definitely depends what you count as “dark” but I get hints of it in plenty of episodes, starting with Church on Ruby Road. And I would guess we’re only going to see more going forward.

I guess I am more of the opposite of the initial post. Still coming to a similar conclusion.

For me, the quintessential expression of the 15th Doctor is the one scene in “The Church on Ruby Road” where the Doctor dances.

I may not be able to fully describe why this resonates with me, but I’ll give it my best shot: it’s the abundance of energy and positive emotion, the sense of freedom. It’s not just lighthearted; it feels like a fresh start for the Doctor, someone who has finally dealt with and let go of all the regrets accumulated over a lifetime spanning centuries.

I would have hoped to see this continue, perhaps with an arc that brings him more down to earth later on. Still, something different—a new side to his character—would have been interesting.

I haven’t watched Season 1 a second time yet, so my opinion might change. But for now, I’d say that’s not what we got. Overall, character-wise, the 15th Doctor feels pretty much like an average of what we got before. And that’s fine by me. Not everything has to be tailored to my liking, and obviously, other folks liked it a lot.

Besides that, have to agree with

The 12th Doctor didn’t click for me at first also, but over time, he’s become one of my Top 3 Doctors. Only time will tell, always.
