I really like Ryan as a companion, especially in the novels. He really is just an average bloke who happens to be in the Tardis. I like that him forgetting his phone sets off the events of The Good Doctor, and it’s cool seeing him use it in Combat Majicks to trick people into thinking he’s a powerful wizard who has trapped warriors in his phone, when in reality he’s just showing one of those mobile games lol. Even in Molten Heart, his little jokes about LOTR and the Hobbit are really cute and him and 13 get to have some fun little adventures. His arc in season 12 is really cool and calls back to the 3rd Doctor’s era, and his exit is really mature and heartbreaking.
People say all the time that they want a companion who’s just a regular person, not necessarily a mystery to solve, and Ryan fits that niche perfectly.
I always like reviews if I find that they articulate their opinion well, whether or not I agree with it. So I think you’ll be fine! Go for it! I’d love to read your takes on 13 stories.
Also, to add: it’s really not about the likes. Reviewing should be done just because you want a place to jot down your opinions on stories and share them with others. Screw the likes!
I find myself liking this era more and more as I revisit certain episodes. I’ve always liked how much better visually the show looked under Chibnall (CGI is hit-and-miss as always, but the camera quality, the shots, the sheer scale shown during Flux; kind of wish all of the revived era looked this good), and while it didn’t always pan out, I appreciate how full-on he was in embracing the Classic era, both aesthetically with the returning monsters (I may not like the whole episode, but I love the Sea Devils design in Legend Of The Sea Devils) and conceptually with the historical episodes.
Finished S11, 12 and the NY specials, flux time!
my fav episode so far is revolution of the daleks / fugitive of the judoon
Did a review of ROTD - not very long as never know what to write
Damn this era gets better and better with every rewatch. Saw Demons of the Punjab again and picked up on a lot of things I didn’t get the first time around. The Thajarians are now one of my favorite monsters, both in design and motivation. I love how they’re the only two left of their species, and when the Doctor steals their ancestors, they do not hesitate to threaten her for it. Seeing them on the Blu-Ray DVD is so cool, I had to pause to just STARE at how freaky they are. Excellent alien, cool design, and great execution. Can’t decide what episode to rewatch next (I can’t watch the Witchfinders over and over.)
