I think that this should be in General / off topic since it is not a Doctor Who release. What do others think?

Whatever works best really! Not sure if many others are gonna pick it up but seeing as its BF I wanted to give it a shot.

I moved it to General / off topic because we put all other franchises there. Hope that it is good!

Thanks! I’ll make note for future reference too, thanks

Just listened to this one! I enjoyed it, but I think it was a bit simplistic.

I’m interested in how they’ll develop the idea of OCAS itself. By personifying excessive capitalist accumulation as a disease, the writers externalise it; reduce it to something that exists within individuals rather than what it is in real life: a systematic problem. That in itself I’m not a fan of.

I hope they make more of these, though! Love to see Big Finish explore more genres and make more original content. It would be fantastic if they became a leading company in UK radio drama outside of just science fiction – especially as BBC radio drama production just keeps being slashed :frowning: .

Finished the story, will do the Behind the scenes after, but here some stray thoughts:

I liked it, I’m certainly intrigued to see where they’re going, but it’s very short and very much setup, so I can’t really say much about it besides that. But the fact that it gripped me I think is enough to count it as a successful pilot.

I’d like to comment on the topics that are spoken about, but I don’t know where they’re going with it, and it’s mostly been surface level mentions so far, so there’s not a lot for me to go off.

Loved the music! Incredibly good. Gets a point extra for le banger tunes.

Uhh I like the ‘framing device’ (can’t think of a better term) of this being the uncut recordings of people making a documentary, I think that’s cool, but it also cuts around which kinda messes with that, so I’m not sure they even know what the framing is supposed to be, but it’s fine I didn’t mind.

Yeah, dunno, I’m intrigued, just wished it was a bit longer. They’ve mentioned at the end the interesting part of all this, and the rest of the release feels very prologue-y, so I hope it gets to continue.

Sorry but this was bad. The whole thing feels like a student play, I was waiting for some satire - just laying out the current way capitalism works as an historic epoch seen from 20 years hence is not satire!

I would say the basic idea is silly & feels out of touch but I have no idea what the basic idea is. It’s all so flat & hard to see where on earth this will go. It’s just people explaining what happened with little dramatic impact, just a ‘history’ lesson. All exposition with no real characters so no one to care about. It’s all delivered in such a dry factual way. No emotional connection to events. 2 dimensional individuals & feels unsure of what its focus is.

There is no plot here. No incentive to explore this further if it continues. No twist or dramatic hook. When it ended I thought, that’s it? Basically it commits the ultimate sin of any piece of fiction, it’s boring. I don’t know what story they’re talking about in the extras but it certainly isn’t what I’d just listened to.

I’d be interested to see how it’s been received elsewhere. It sounded interesting but your review suggests it is anything but.
