I think it works really well, but unfortunately the New Year’s slot means they didn’t get as much viewers as the Christmas specials.
Are there any story ideas you have that are themed around new years and new years celebrations?

As for the question itself, I probably have a few ideas, but can’t think of any right now.
I actually think Eve of the Daleks is the best. It’s also one of the best Thirteenth Doctor episodes!
I really missed Doctor Who on Christmas Day, and thought New Years was a much worse time slot for publicity reasons etc. Unfortunately I think it contributed to the show getting less popular.
However I thought it was a good idea to shake things up, and there were definitely story ideas that could be explored.
Ideally we’d have a Christmas Special AND a New Years Special. Like “The End of Time”, only better…

The TV Movie, all the way.
Well, last year I watched the TV Movie for the first time on New Year’s Eve as a Discord watch party in the Torchwood server, and this year I watched the TV Movie to count down to midnight. I’m sensing a bit of a theme…
I agree with Shauny that is was bad for publicity but good for getting some new stories. I’ll add that, despite not really caring for most of them, I do think they’re easier for me to get into on account of being less Christmas focused.
Eve of the Daleks is great, could really be set on any day of the year though. The TV Movie is probably my favorite ‘New Years’ story.
Not yet, watched Robots of Death this year.
I think Edinburgh and Edinburgh castle is beautiful. Would love to see story set around the Hogmany event they have there.
Unfortunately I think this was another example of Chibnals rubbish media strategy. Was worse publicity for the show.
Actually easy for me this time: Auld Lang Syne.
I think my favourite is probably the TV Movie even though I know that it’s probably not the best story. But I still remember how exciting to watch new Doctor Who for the first time in years. I think I watched the VHS three times in the space of 24 hours.
I also really like Eve of the Daleks and Resolution, particularly all the stuff in Resolution with the Dalek out of its shell.
I would agree with the others who say that ditching the Christmas specials in favour of New Year ones was a bad move. New Year always feels like a bit of an anti-climax after Christmas and these Specials do feel a bit like that too.
That said, I think the idea to launch Series 12 on New Year’s Day with Spyfall was a smart move. Not technically a special but still a strong episode and pretty much guaranteed a good audience on the day.
NYE is also an occasion where people go out to house parties or to see fireworks. I missed most the New Year’s specials because I wasn’t home…
I’ve heard many good things about this and keep meaning to listen, but just need to hop back on the 9DAs
I don’t care about New Year but I do lovelovelove the Movie. But I am at the airport so I haven’t been able to watch it yet. Maybe when I’m laying over in Heathrow…
Oh yes I’d forgotten about that because I was focussing on TV. That’s a really great story!
Don’t forget that Invasion of the Bane was broadcast on New Year’s Day too.
Oh and Volcano. The episode after The Feast of Steven which is like The Chase on speed.
Don’t know if this counts but just read the Torchwood magazine New Years Eve/Day story. Short but bittersweet.
It absolutely counts and god, I forgot about that, but it really is one of the standouts from the magazine isn’t it!
Eve of the Daleks. It’s more enjoyable and has the best use of the Daleks out of the 3 specials. The main complaint I have though is that Chibnall didn’t have to use the Daleks in every special. I know that they’re popular but there’s always other options.
