New Who Misconceptions

I thought that Five where going to be my favourite after the speech Ten did on the children in need special. He became my least favourite classic Doctor (tied with six).

I actually also thought Five might be a favourite of mine, especially as he is young and quite attractive, the closest to Ten as the Classic series gets.

But yeah nah he’s not my fave.

Yeah, five actually is my least favorite classic Doctor, having slipped below six.

Which isn’t to say I dislike him. Splendid chaps, all of them. (Or, um, whatever the feminine form of chaps is for 13 and fugitive and such…)

I also thought Five would be a favourite, especially after getting a bit tired of watching Tom for seven seasons straight :joy:

But I was pretty underwhelmed and haven’t recovered since.

Chappette?

I definitely got the impression watching this that 5 was the first ‘fun’ incarnation which has not been the case.

This is what I thought about Four. Once I finally learned that there was more than one Doctor in the entire series, he was the Doctor everyone said to start with. I liked Four’s style and, from the gifs I’d seen, he seemed to be a shoo-in for my favorite character.

Ultimately, his personality didn’t interest me as much I thought it would. He wasn’t as whimsical as the pictures made him out to be, so I stopped watching him and moved on to Twelve instead (whom I came to like right off the bat).

Four has I think 3 distinct flavors depending on the producer/script editor. Under Hinchcliffe/Holmes I think he strikes that perfect balance between the whimsy and silly with the seriousness and sarcasm. Under Williams he starts to get always silly, ridiculous, and over the top with little to balance it out. Under JNT it swung the opposite way and is rarely ever that silly. But honestly, if Tom Baker doesn’t work for someone, it’s a long time they’re sorta stuck with him.

My favorite version of him was how he was written in Shada.

But, as I only watched that serial a few months ago, during my introduction to DW I thought Four would have the personality that Six has (though, at the time, I didn’t know who Six was). In the serials I watched, I didn’t get enough whimsy and sarcasm for my liking.
