PS: I just used the “Caption with AI” feature to generate alt-text—I assume it’s part of the forum software. Wow! As bad as AIs implications are for for “creative stuff”, for the climate, and so on…
As an old guy who remembers how impossible it would have been to code such a caption generator when I started out, I have to say: yeah, some aspects of the technology are impressive, too.

Yes, I am very conflicted about AI because I understand the hate it gets, the misuse of it, the environmental implications etc… but it can be genuinely useful and sometimes mind-bogglingly good. So it seems a shame to just ignore it.
And yes that’s a forum software thing

AI definitely has its uses, but it seems like currently a lot of employers think its the answer to all their problems. It is not.
There is of course the environmental impact & the way it’s used in the creative field - ‘learning’ by stealing artistic content. Any great technological innovation has led to unemployment - the power loom during the industrial revolution for example, more recently automated check outs in supermarkets & how many high street banks are closing due to the popularity of internet banking? But governments should be better at minimising the impact. Basically bring in UBI (Universal Basic Income).
