Make Your Own Adventure with Doctor Who - Search for the Doctor - Read-Along 5

I was also looking at the set for these - there’s one more David Martin (The Garden of Evil) and a Philip Martin!! (Along with a Pip and Jane Baker which I know I did read and I remember being a lot of fun…)

And William (Galaxy Four) Emms of course.

Well, as we know, your definition of “fun” is questionable…

Ok, will fix this later, that shouldn’t be happening!

There’s a short trip that just got released today which is in a similar vein to this, without the choosing aspect. I am very tempted because while this has been… interesting… I have had a lot of fun with it!

I can’t believe that’s how it ended. The cover I have for this book made it seem more interesting than it really was, but I guess it lived up to its name. We found the Doctor. End story.

Here’s my review of this mess.

And yes, it’s a very rare 1/10 from me.

Search for the Doctor is a gamebook that doesn’t understand games or books. It punishes players for exploring, hides its single successful ending behind an avalanche of bad luck and arbitrary choices, and drowns everything in dull technobabble. The writing is dense, the characters unlikable, and the adventure—ironically—has very little to do with the Doctor. It’s a rare feat to make an interactive story feel this lifeless. Dave Martin, sadly, plays his own game and forgets to invite the reader along.

You’re welcome to read my full review below (no spoilers; not that you’d care if there were):

Of course, it’s a Sixth Doctor story. Another blow

I can console you by saying that it would have sucked just as much with any other incarnation…
